Yes, I am still alive. Doing another tour in A-Stan. Asked my branch manager to get me back to Lewis, they sent me to Alaska instead, at least I am on the correct coast now. Alaska still counts as the NW and I have friends here who's input I respect, so here we go:

April 1971 FJ 40, got it for $3,000. Original 1F with 3 speed transmission and vacuum transfer case.

Thank you for your service!:awesomework:

I have said once, said it a million times.........I love those old 40's. If i has the money.....errr time, to build one of those i would. Please keep us updated with many MANY pics!

Been home on leave 2 days. Went through the boxes that are here, I am only waiting on the sliders from Man-A-Fre and the tube doors from Metal-Tech. Other than those everything listed above has arrived. All I plan on doing during this 15 days is recovering the seats and stripping and painting the seat frames. I still need to order my lockers, gears and master install kits. I am leaning towards ordering either new fenders or the Metal-Tech tube fender kit. Keep in mind this is going to be a very capable daily driver and I want to keep as clean a factory look as I can.

My pile of parts so far

working on the back rests at the moment.

I am at the point now where the only parts from the 4Runner I might use is the power steering parts for the conversion, the front disk brakes to convert the FJ's rear to disk and I will definitely be pulling the air compressor, 5 Gallon air tank, and my 35's. I hate to rip apart a rig that has so many good memories and is quite the capable wheeler....but I think I could get more out of the axles, ARB bumper, springs etc than selling it as a whole up here in Alaska.

Just need to finish the seat backs

More work

Did some work today, just minimal stuff to include cleaning out the garage so I could get the FJ back in before I head back to Afghanistan in a few days:

Took apart the headlight assembly and cleaned it out, got the chrome ring all shiny again (before and after)

Some notes on the Metal tech tube doors. I am very happy with the overall look and finish of the product before installation. On the other hand some things I am not to pleased with.

1.) Where the latch hits the striker, and the slots in the striker for the bolts are to far apart.
2.) Give me a tab so I can attach the arm to keep the door from swinging all the way open and hitting the fender ( I will do this myself when I get back )
3.) I understand the full wrap of the tube on the back of the door, but it interrupts the flow of the body lines...I can live with it..just being picky now.

On the other hand I am VERY VERY happy with the Man-A-Fre sliders, perfect fit. I am considering trimming about 2 inches off the bottom of the tub so I can pull these up a bit higher, Also have the completed drivers seat done.
