Hey chevy guys ....what are your thoughts on the chevy 5.3 liter vortec? I saw a few of them at koh and they seem to rock-n-roll . After I catch up on some bills I think i want to swap one into my tacoma as the engine is a bit tired and has blow by.

Hi All:

I'm not a Chevy/GM guy but everything I've heard is that the 5.3L V-8 is a good powerplant!

For a Toyota mini-truck the Chevy 4.3L V-6 seems to be a common swap.

Regards,

Alan

I already have a sbc 350 in it. I will not down grade to a v6... not going to happen.

Put the carb manifold /MSD ignition conversion box on and put a propane kit on it. Also they dont have a distributor, good for firewall clearance. There are also all aluminum ones that are fairly common. Unfortunately they are super tall, but you can buy camaro/ corvette pans and shorter intakes.

I've got a 02 5.3L vortec sitting in the garage just waiting to go in my jeep. I also run a 350 carbed now. The 5.3L is definitly goin to be a power boost. I've heard alot of good thing about that motor an i think it is just the right size for a yoda or jeep. I can wait to put it in.:awesomework:

5.3 is what I plan on doing in my rig. I WAS going to be doing it very soon, but I've got some other stuff in the works so mods to the Jeep may get put on hold.

where does one readily get this stuff... and about how much $$

I thought about a 5.3 a while ago, but veto'd it cause I want Propane on my next rig, and it seemed kind of backwards to take a nice efi motor and convert it to propane. But if guys are/have done it.....

How do these motors like getting dirt then washed (i.e. pressure washer/hose)??? The one major thing that usually concerns me about modern, more electronic motors.

check out www.wait4meperformance.com he did my harness for cheap it made it easy to install. 5.3l is a killer motor stick a mild cam in it and it will scream. Also these motors are so easy to work on and so cheap to find in the junk yard.
