:fish: for info here

transplanting a '98 5.7 vortec from a chevy 1/2ton 4x4 into a cj7 frame. the donor vehicle is running and driving so i am pondering on pulling motor, tranny, and X-fer all together. of course i will use the comp and all from the truck...... truck has 350/5spd/floor shift x-fer case

question:
has anyone ever used a tranny/X-fer case combo out of a truck like this? I know you would have to use a ford 60 up front
have never seen one to my knowledge in a crawler :dunno:

that is my first option, second option is to bolt up the 5.7 to a older th350 or sm465 w/ a 205 and run a chevy 60 front

opinions? suggestions? Thanks in advance

i have the same motor bolted to a th400 and atlas 4.3 behind tht. really like the combo.

The half ton AL 5spd is not very strong, and from what I've read, is disposable if anything goes wrong with it. I would get an auto. Anything that will bolt to a chevy SB/BB will bolt up to it, so you have alot of choices.

thanks, thats what i was looking for. i think ill just go with the ol trusty and stay Chevy all the way

I got the 5.7 LT1 bolted to a TH400 and Dana 300 . I have yet to regret a TH400. They take much abuse and if built properly I think it is the best way to go.

I have a 5.7 with turbo 350 trans and 3.0 atlas - I like it - however the one thing I will change is the trans ever gives up is to install a reverse valve body

My tranny has a reverse manual VB and compression braking. All the goodies from Art Carr, one of the best things about my rig.
