I'm going to look at a 2011 2500 with a 6.0. 121k Any tricks to make sure the motors sound besides sound miles ect? :dunno:

Isn't that the aluminum block one? We have a 2012 at work with 60k on it and blows blue smoke every time you start it and uses about 3 quarts of oil between oil changes and it's not been driven hard. The older iron blocks seem to do much better. Got a couple of those as well and they have twice the mile and don't smoke.

Gm covers that, free of charge... it is a pcv issue 95% of the time

I have no idea if it's a aluminum block? I'll look. I'm assuming the oil issue is similar to the 5.3 pcv issue :dunno:

All of ours are 2500s and I was told the bad one had an aluminum block and heads while the older ones had iron blocks and aluminum heads. Guess the guy driving it was wrong, wouldn't be the first time. I'll let him know about the pcv thing.

So what's the fix on the 6.0 and 5.3s? Replacing the pvc ? Isn't it built into the value cover?

Correct, GM offers a new driver's side valve cover w/pvc that fixes the problem 97% of the time on the iron block engines, new pistons and rings are sometimes needed on motors that have had the cylinders washed down due to excessive oil usage over a long period of time... GM covers it for 5yr or 100,000 miles under warranty even if you are not the original owner
