Just wanting opinions on value. I know it is in the eye of the beholder. It is a late 80's 4runner, no motor, auto tranny/t-case, rough interior, good top, ok exterior.....

Little more specific if you can. They started putting the 3.0L V6 in (help me out here guys) like 1988 er 1989.
I realize you said it had no motor but this will mean you got a different trans than if it had come with a 22RE.
I'm not a big fan of the autos especially if they got a ton of miles on them.
Rough guess.... hmmm... i wouldn't pay more than 400-500 bucks for something like that

Sorry, I just don't know a ton about it. I am going to look at it in about an hour, so probably no chance to help me on this, but it had a Turbo in it. I did not realize they came with an auto (?)... But, it says it on the tailgate and the guy (hispanic, so a little barrier) says it was a turbo motor. I was guessing about $300... maybe $400 if I really found a reason to get excited. Thanks!

Oh, like I said, the interior is a little rough, but the front buckets, besides being a little dirty, are in great shape, and it has a sunroof, factory inclonemeter, a bad winshield, though... No bumpers and missing a few marker lights.

is it 1st gen or second gen? Would probably depend on what you are looking to do with it. Is there a title?

Well, it is a 1st gen for the 4runner, but it is an '87, so, IFS. I would just like to make it a rig we could use to buckle a child seat in, not spend too much money, and yet have a somewhat reliable/fun rig to play around in. Yes, title. He has the motor (turbo) in pieces that I can have with it... although I don't think I would put a 4cyl in it. We will see. Audrey and I just met with him, and we walked away with him"thinking about it" and us seeing if he calls us back. We kinda told him we really didn't want to spend more than $300 on a rig that we could use, but don't want any of the running gear that is in it!

if you are planning on ditching the ifs, motor and tranny for something else, why not look into getting an xj? It alreay has a solid axle, a good torquey motor(4.0) and if you get a 4 door, it would be easier for the kid to get in and out

I might have to think about that. I do feel, though, that I could not get a cheap-azz Cherokee to be as reliable and friendly as a 4runner. I have access to a ton of Toyota crap, like any one of us. Plus, Audrey thinks that the Cherokee is not nearly as good looking as a 4runner, expecially the older ones. She wants the top off, and all that jazz. Hell, Jason is about one problem away from lighting that utter piece of shiat (1997, mind you...) Jeep on fire and he wants a Yota, so....

But, maybe I should open up my field a little bit.

And, why didn't you get a Cherokee?:masturbanana[1]:

Where did you find this bad boy? I might be interested in some of the turbo parts if you pick it up and aren't gonna run the 4cyl.

Sounds good. I'm not really "in the market" for the stuff, but its just one of those things that I know I could use for future projects. Speaking of which, I'm swapping a 22RE into that 3.0 4Runner I bought for $500, but if I can make it a 22RE Turbo instead, that would be sweet, haha.

Hell, I still need to get a damn engine hoist so I can get the motor out of the parts truck and to the machine shop!

300 bucks was a good offer. If you don't want the rear axle i'm sure theres some clowns around here that will buy it from you. I believe toyota put 4:88 gears in their axles when used with an auto.

I personally had too much already invested in my toy to be worth while to get another wheeler, which is why I just transformed it into what it is and is becoming. The way it sits now I'll be able to haul the little one around, once she's big enough, with very minimal work to mount a car seat

Congratulations, by the way... I had forgotten to say that. And, I meant when you first got your truck, not now... I don't think the guy is gonna go for it, but that is ok. They are only getting older, and hopefully more "plentiful."

And, I think it is 4.56's they put in the turbo/auto/v6 stuff.... Still good though!

As for getting the Toyota, the deal was right when I first got it. If the same sort of deal was there for a Jeep, dare I say it, but I would have gotten that instead.
