What transmission? C6?

Guy at work as a very nice '92 F250 that he just lost the auto transmission in... went and bought a new truck and now wants to sell this one. I was pondering it as a project to resell since it's in great shape and has a bunch of new parts and a motor with about 40k on it... but only if I can find a good cheap used tranmission for it.

Probably an A4OD

My 90 had one. They were known to have issues, and are relatively expensive to rebuild, as a lot of the hard parts will need replacing.

Yeah, I was hoping it would be something cheap/simple like the C6. I think I'm probably going to pass unless it's a screaming deal (he hasn't given me any prices yet), and it's not as easy to find used A4OD's in good shape. The truck is in really nice shape though other than the tranny, and he just put a bunch of money into tie rod ends, a whole new exhaust and a bunch of other stuff, so if anyone's interested I'll send along his price and contact info.

E4OD :shaking:

Tranny's a turd in stock form. In typical ford auto/overdrive fashion, they skimped on the hard parts.

EDIT: and, those 351s didn't make the power for the amount of gas they drink. :booo:

X2 my 90 get's 10 with a tailwind.

It will and E4OD, I bought my truck for $400 in nice shape with a bad tranny, I thought it would be a sweet deal, After the better and half price deal I was into my tranny $1300 for a complete rebuild.

77 would have an NP435......:wtf: they work just fine to tow with........ An auto is gonna downshift, run yer rpm's up and build tons of heat at which point you spend 4,000.00 on a good rebuilt for the auto, and yer fuel mileage is worse...:looser:

Well... he said the first person who shows up with $500 cash and a way to get it out of his driveway gets it, title and all. The estimate on a rebuild from the Ford dealership and and independent trans shop over here is $2800-$3000, and about $4000 for a reman replacement.

PM me for his number if anyone's interested... maybe you've got the hookup on a trans for it or feel like putting some money into it and reselling.

Matt,
Is it a 4x4?
And if you like the truck, go ahead and get it, especially if the truck is solid and the motor is strong. Just because it's got an POS-E4OD, doesn't mean it has to stay that way. Get a reman'd C6 settup and away you go. Probably will get better mileage too! (You're not supposed to tow in the OD position - isn't strong enough)

It's a 4x4, long bed, extended cab... two tone tan/brown, tan interior, nice truck. 136k on the chassis and 40k on rebuilt long block 351.

What's involved in swapping a C6 into one of these trucks? Driveshaft lengths stay the same? If I bought it, it would mainly be to fix and resell... which is why I'm hesitant, because the resale value isn't huge on early 90's fords IME, and it's a D50 front and sterling rear (I think?), so it's not worth parting out for the axles.

It's not worth buying for resale or parting, IMO, and I should know.

It's only worth it if you're looking for a decent trailer puller / camper carrier.

Regarding how easy a swap? Don't really know. But I'd start at a wrecking yard - as the 351 V8 has been around for eons, and most of them had C6s behind them in F-series (or so I believe)

Well, I've already got my dodge for towing, which is why I'm going to pass this deal up I think. Anybody else interested? :D
