my brother is looking at a 94 2500 diesel 2wd, with about 90k on.
what do we need to look out for on these, were these the ones with the tranny bolt thing? any other known issues?
and what is a 2wd standard cab worth?

what are they asking on price? I wouldn't worry about any issues other then lack of care.. If it's really low on oil, coolant is mixed with oil, or anything you'd find on a regular vehicle, then I'd worry. Other then that, if the KDP has slipped out, you'd notice with a massive oil leak, or the engine would be dead. As far as 5th gear goes in the NV4500, don't worry about that either, It's not a difficult thing to fix. It will be a good, reliable truck that will get great mileage.. The pump won't make huge power, but it will make enough for most. If that's even a concern for him.

A 160 pump wont make big power??? huh....what about brad ponci?

a 94 with 90k miles?!?!? If the price is right buy it. Period. 94 is the first year of second gen and P-pump. Its very easy to turn the power up. You got a big rear axle still so you can tow. :D KDP stands for killer dowel pin, and yes with this truck. not a huge deal. neither is 5th gear nut if its a handshaker. this are minor problems compared to a 1994 with 90k miles. if you test drive it and see black smoke coming out the exhaust...i would look it over alot closer because you know its been turned up. IE: listen for air rushing through the heater core in the cab(blown head gasket). see if the converter/clutch is slipping(SLIPPY :D). check the oil/coolant and listen for other noises like any other vehicle. 12 valves are very noisy so dont be to alarmed.

I don't believe they were all 160 pumps... And Brad can do more with a 160 pump then you can with a modded 180 or 215 pump..

it belonged to one of his friends dad who passed away and his mom is looking to get rid of it, it is an auto and has not been tuned up. he bought it new or close to new to tow a fifth wheel, it doesn't leak any oil and still runs like new.

sounds like he is on it, but is having a hard time coming up with a value, not many 2wd standard cabs out there

nope i love those trucks. you can get away with about 50hp more fuel SAFELY without having to worry about the convertor slipping (if you tow heavy) if it was me...id pull the fuel plate out (gaining closer to 80-90hp) put 4k governor springs in and drive it with a stock convertor. But thats just me

especially with that kind of mileage.. I can think of one truck that is the exact same. He just happens to be the insurance agent for my house. I agree, it is difficult to come up with a price on something like that. When he figures something out, post it up. I'm sure we can figure out if it's reasonable..
