So my dd/commuter 97 tj 4cyl 5speed throws a po301 cylinder 1 random misfire code and goes into limp mode every time I rev it over 4k rpm. I shut it off and restart it and runs fine then I clear code and drive it with no issues or misfire until I rev it over 4k again. It does have a intake, exhaust and Gforce performance chip. Any ideas?

Do a tuneup on it.

Cap, rotor, plug wires.

Thank me later. :awesomework:
Plugs, wires, cap, rotor, all fluids and filters were done just under 3k ago after I bought it. It did sit for 4 months before I baught it but already had the check engine light on.

how are your injectors?? any of them misfiring??

check the harness just to make sure no damage or bad connectors...

then try and see if they are working properly... I have use a screwdriver to listen to them in the past.. or you can use a stethoscope if you have one...

just a couple of things to check that only cost time...

good luck...

It had the same problem before and after new cap and rotor.

Do a compression test. Maybe a blown head or burnt valve. But more than likely its your chip if it started doing this after you installed it.

It had the chip and check engine light already when I bought it but 1500 for a clean tj couldn't pass it up. I will check compression and injectors when I have the time but I don't really care if it blows up because I have a 90k mile 4.0, ax15,231 with slipyoke out of another 97 tj so just looking for a reason or time to swap out the 4cyl.
