sounds more like the contacts in the sylonoid are sticking. did you change the sylonoid as well?

the other possibility is your ignition switch is arcing or sticking in the start mode. Try jumping it at the sylenoid. use a jumper wire from the batt. to the ign. side terminal on the syl. it will crank but not start as long as the key is off. when you pull the jumper off the starter should stop. if it does I would say the switch is your culprit. if not its the sylenoid

Maybe the little wires are reversed on the solenoid? If you put it out of park, the starter should stop. I would add shims to the current starter to keep it from being jammed all the way engaged.

been my experiance its usually the starter not fitting correctly and getting jammed into the flywheel enough it wont release when the solenoid disengages.

look for bunged up teeth on the flywheel. run the flywheel all the way around as it might only be bunged up in a few areas and fine in others. take a die grinder and remove any high spots or burrs on the teeth.

then read the instructions about shimming the started for proper fit.

picked up a starter from NAPA with lifetime warranty. so im gonna put that in and see hwo it goes

bottow line, solenoid & bendix CANNOT POSSIBLY work unless you have constant power going to them ;) a sticky solenoid does NOT makes starter engine keep running, it just engages it.

1-check field wire for right on/off power operation
2-check starter for 12 volts on the casing (internal short)
3-is the starter ROD in the column stciky? common issue!

if no for #2 then it lies within #1 or #3 99% chance.. if you cant find it bring it here i will..
