im about to swap in a 5.3 and a th350 or 400 in the jeep. probably going with PTC after seeing alot of talk about them. i dont want to be rebuilding the thing after every weekend....

so what are yalls opinions on compression braking, full manual VBs, what is a good cooler to run (type/make) sorta on a budget here too... and stall speeds on the TC

sorry if this has been covered already

thanks

trail rig only? i bought the biggest tranny cooler that Advance auto had and mounted a 10" electric fan to it.....half price of one you buy as a unit from jegs.... if your gonna race you probably want even more than that

I would suggest a manual valve body... i can put mine in 1st and it still shifts out ...which really sucks

if you have low gearing in your axles then compression braking probably isnt neccessary but would be nice in a lot of situations and usually comes with the valve body upgrade

Im curious about this as well. What about convertor's i know alot of people run stock but I have also heard of them coming apart and toasting a tranny.

yea its just a trail rig only. i might not do the compression braking, i dont like the herky jerky feeling when idling down a rough trail.
4.3 atlas and 5.38s im geared pretty low. not sure if i would even need much stall???

I run a 02 5.3 with a turbo 350 with a b&m shift kit with no kickdown cable with a stock stall converter with a atlas 3.8 and 4.56 gears with 44's. I love the compression braking and it will not shift out of 1st gear if you pull it down in it at all. I run a Derale part# 13720 and it never gets to hot. I also run Mobil 1 synthetic transmission fluid. Best of luck.
