I have sway a way shocks and I need to adjust the oil level. What kind of oil do I use and what can I find locally??

All I found in Knoxville was motorcycle shock oil. It is expensive. I ordered gallons from Summit for way better price.

One had a damaged fitting and leaked some out so I figure I'll drain both and refill. So........26 ounces or so

The motorcycle shop on Topside has it. It was 26 dollars for a pint irc. If you just need a little to top off, bring a bottle by the hous tomorrow. I only have about 2 QTS of 5 wt Lucas syn.

Hell I appreciate the offer. I found two pints on eBay for less than 20$. I'd better start from scratch. It's a little springy on that one. It is really much appreciated.

I use 5606 hydraulic oil.

It's aviation hydraulic fluid. Low viscosity, high viscosity index (very stable throughout temperature change).

In fact, if you compare specs, I'd venture to say that most shock oil is actually 5606 hydraulic oil

Can you pick this oil up a your local hydraulic shop
Or tractor supply?

pretty much any oil company will have a 5606 type oil. It is commonly used in low temp hydraulic applications (freezers, etc)

Just a semi educated guess here but if you run a little thicker oil it will slow down the rebound and compression kinda like changing valving if your air shocks are to soft.

That would seem like the case. What would be the next type of oil
Recommended?

Any hydraulic oil will work. Especially for a rock crawler, because the shocks never get hot.

Power steering fluid would be a good choice. You can usually find it in gallon jugs for pretty cheap also.

Running high dollar "exotic" oils in air shocks for a rock crawler/trail rig is pretty pointless.
