ok, i have seen air shocks being used with springs, with coils and without either.i am trying to learn as much as possible so that i can purchase once instead of twice.(i know, i know....)

with the proper valving a guy could be able to run air shocks without anything yeah?

i feel like a dumbass, i have looked through like at least 25 pages tonight and cannot find anything on them.
i have looked all over online and looked at some calculators for suspension stuffs......do not get most of it.

put it in my hands and i can get it,otherwise i'm fawked!

need help here.how do i figure out what valving i need to order?

i am building another subaru,:;,and am leaving the IFS for now,but have homebrewed some radius links to give me extra travel ,and am putting a rear diff up front,so my axles will hang out......but i need some new dampening.

i want to put air shocks in,but am havuing a hell of a time fingerring it out.thanks in advance.cheers, brian:redneck:

You only read 25 pages? :eeek:

This is the internet, 25 pages doesn't even scratch the surface. Keep reading. :awesomework:

ok, so petersens saved me on this one.i do not know how i missed that ......

so the 2.0 versions of the fox shocks state 500 pounds per corner of unsprung weight.

thanks for the prodding.......:flipoff:

and just so you know,that was 25 pages on this board.and as many tech pages as i could find on offroad engineering,fox,king, swayaway,radflo ,and bilsteins website.

they all are more than happy to tell you why their shock is better,but there are no nonbiased opinions........

and yes , i said subaru.......slam it all you want.my brat is gone now,but it would follow alot of rigs alot of places.the new one i am building will be sweeter and slower..........when i get to the point of no return on the build i will post it.

one day i'll get a big boy ride.:haha:........cheers, brian

If you read the shock valving thread on Pirate you will soon understand there are far to many variables that go into shock tuning for them to be covered on an online thread...

To even begin understanding the theoretical side of shock tuning you need a basic engineering degree, and even then your just scratching the surface.

wow,that had to be the hardest thing for me to read ever.i do not wish to "tune" my shocks, well at least not yet.

****, i don't even have them yet.don't know if it is worth the money to try and design it this way........

i am simply trying to figure out if the weight in the front of my vehicle is heavy enough to use air shocks.

most guys have 500 pounds of engine.not to mention a solid axle and huge tires in comparison.

i checked out the a-arm section of swayaways site and it is the closest to my application.
any pointers as to finding the "unsprung weight of the front of my rig?i mean,it may sound dumb,but what the hell do they weigh it with? a hanging scale on a lift?

as usual i am doing custom stuff that eventually i will understand:haha:...thanks for the link to pirate.i sometimes forget about that place.

by the way this rig will not be driven on the street very much at all.

its funny,cause in the subie world i am at the forefront of the modification end of things.here i am like a frickin kidergartener................cheers, brian

I would be willing to bet that you have more unsprung weight than my zuk buggy. How much does the engine trans t case combo weigh in that thing?

:;

well,i dunno exactly.
but the t case is from a samurai,you know what one of those weighs,i can pick the trans up by myself,so it does not weigh much:haha:

and two guys (my size) can pick up the engine fully assembled with flywheel.

i am guessing like
engine=250
trans=125
t-case=like 50ish?

probably wrong on the figures(maybe i am stronger than i think i am.),but i cannot imagine the entire unit weighing more than 500 alltogether.........cheers, brian

ok, the t-case weighs 50(with new gears from tril gear:D)
the trans w/flywheel and clutch weighs 160
the motor fully loaded weighs like 350( i was way off here)

so that is 560ish...i sthat less than your zuke?:redneck:cheers, brain
