Its pretty common. The ones that I like, and are less common, are the ones where they hide the alternator like the starter. And swap the pulley off for gears, and us the flywheel to spin it. Its done so the front of the engine is uncluttered, and typically on rods no running hoods.

The flywheel one charges all the time. The ones on the driveshaft only charge when you are moving. So if you end up doing a lot of slow cruising, you'll have to take a few hot laps down some side streets to get your juice back up.

Yeah some were talking about idling and draining the battery. I like the starter mount concept also.

Now that I havent seen... the flywheel method. Sounds pretty cool but damn I bet its a PITA gear and all that wise, does someone in the industry make a kit for that ?

( seen the pinion mounted alt before... still neat )

The Green Grenade, had the alternator in the dash, and a belt that ran though the bellhousing and around a pulley on the flywheel. To chage the belt, you had to pull the trans.

Kit? Ha, yeah thats all custom stuff. There is some roundy round supply shops that sell the pinion mounted ones though.

Well thats why i asked, I knew there were some pinion mounted kits, but like I said, never heard of anyone driving one off the flywheel mr smarty pants. :flipoff1:
