im thinking about geting a more power puller from wyeth scott co. and wounderd if anyone has any experiance with them? or input on wich model would be best.

I used one several years ago. It was better than being stuck, but only barely.

It is slow

It puts your body right over the cable when you are using it. At least get the Amsteel version

It takes a fair amount of oomph to use

A three ton version (the big one) is rated at about two-thirds of the rated strength of a winch you should have on almost any type vehicle. (It isn't clear from their literature is 3 tons is a breaking strength or a rating of what you should reasonably be able to move. If the second, under what conditions - rolling, dead pull, etc.)

It costs $150-200. If you keep your eyes open you can find a used (real) winch for about $300-$350

I might carry one if I were doing a long distance expedition, but strictly as a backup if everything else failed.

i have a winch but i thought it would be a good idea to have some thing to pull me out of the muck rather than further in. and i dont want a crap harbor freight comalong.

power puller

Sometimes A power puller can be easier to use in some cases. Like when your on your side Unless you have one or two or more snatch blocks to rig to your winch. You just hook to your rock slider and a tree or rock. It would be slower but it is a no brain thing.

They seem to hold up better than a comealong but mine came with an aluminum handle which I taco'd pulling an excavator track together. I think the handle is the relief valve.

I used one a few years back that buddy had, and as far as come-alongs go, they work like they should, not like the cheapy ones. Nice long cable, solid ratcheting mechanism, solidly built. The handle is the "fuse", a built in safety feature. I looked into getting one, but ended up with a winch instead. It'd be a great compliment to a winch, but not a replacement.
