I picked up a 321 chassis from Jimmy the other day and starting to piece it together.

here is what I got.

321 buggy
4 wheel steer Rocks
6.0L LQ4, stock for now, L92 heads and cam later on probably
TH400 RMVB
tcase...?
47" LTB's

I cant decide what tcase to look for. I wheel mostly at Clayton but really want to get up to Hot Springs, Disney, Gray Rock, TN area also. The east side driving style suits me better than that crawlin' ****. I been looking at the 5.44 4 speed and alot of people on Pirate liked it but I think they are more crawlers. I also thought about the LoMax205 for the shear cost of it and also a 3.0 or 3.8 Atlas 2 speed. Really want to hear from some folks that are running a little horsepower, Rocks and 47's. I know there is alot of difference in wheeling Clayton and GreyRock so keep that in mind. Clayton is ALOT closer so that is where most of this will be going down. I sure wanna move to Tn though...LOL!

I think for Clayton with some other stuff mixed in you cant beat an Atlas 4sp. Lots of versatility and options on gearing. When you compare Claytong to places in AL and TN, gearing choices are a really good thing. I was on the high side in my old rig and always wanted more gearing at Clayton. Around here it was perfect though. In a big rig like that you have plenty of room to fit a 4sp so go with it

That is what I was thinking. I got the 5.44 for stupid low stuff (90 to 1), 2.72 for a little more (45 to 1) and 2.0 for some ass hauling (33 to 1). After I upgrade the two speed to 1410 everything I aint saving a whole lot over the 4 speed that comes standard with them.

i dont have the atlas 4 speed, but I do have a 231/205 doubler....basically the same thing. 1:1, 1.96:1, 2.72:1, 5.33:1. with 5.13s in the axles. I love the gearing options.

3.0 Atlas...that puts me at 50 to 1. Would that be low enough to crawl around Clayton or Disney in? I bet you find yourself grabbing gears or looking for 4 Hi when you need wheelspeed dont ya? If Ima do a 3.0 wouldnt it be easier to get an old 205 like the black YJ and put in the LoMax gears? Last time I looked they are about a grand for a set and then Im sure I would have to do some other upgrades on it.....not sure if it would be worth it in the long run really.

50 to 1 is pretty decent ration IMO. I would go with an Altas from the start and be done with it.

That is what Im thinking. I just hate to have a 25K buggy with a freakin NP205 in it...LOL.

I mean I got the initial cost of the NP205, the LoMax kit, upgraded yokes, etc, etc. I could go with just a plain 3 to 1 Atlas but once I upgrade it with bigger yokes and all I aint really saving that much over the 4 speed that comes with them stock....maybe save $300, $400 max.

I believe a 3.8 may be better for those areas, and plan on using 2nd for some down south hill shooting. If you had 44" s I would go 3.0

The 4spd 10.3 gives you the best of all of them.

That 10.3 part of it would be worthless IMO. The rest of the tcase is good. Here is the breakdown.

5.44 case 10.3 case
1-90 to 1 1-171 to 1
2-54 to 1 2-102 to 1
D-36 to 1 D-69 to 1

2.72 3.8
1-45 to 1 1-63 to 1
2-27 to 1 2-38 to 1
D-18 to 1 D-26 to 1

2.00 2.72
1-33 to 1 1-45 to 1
2-20 to 1 2-27 to 1
D-13 to 1 D-18 to 1

Yes sir the ultra low is worthless... but you get IMO two other perfect ratios and if you go over to mountianside you can drop in ultra low fix a pimento cheese, take a nap and creep to the top.

My last buggy had the stak three speed 5.2 8100BB th400 rocks and 49's I never used the lowest ratio loved the middle range and used highside for all out hill shooting.
