What do you guys use for lines to and from your coolers? I have the stock brake line style right now, but i'm needing new ones as the barbed end on one is messed and leaking bad! I want to go with something a bit more flexible, they need to be about 3-4ft long each. Suggestions?!?!

Also, What trans temp. gauges are you using? Better question, What temperature should my 700r4 be running at? :redneck::corn: I'm going to do some research later on it, but figured I'd ask around. Any tips to keeping it cool? :corn:

Thanks.

I just cut the lower hardline going into the radiator and stuffed my hoses onto that. Nothing special, but it works.

As for the trans temp guage I can't help you there, but I'd like to know also. I've heard 220 degrees is borderline on a 700r4. Towing, my water temp sees 210 every once in a while, so I'd assume that the trans isn't seeing more than that, and the fluid still looks new.

In the tow rig I bent up hardline....In the buggy I use .375 tranny cooler line to and from the cooler ,which is between the seats/in front of the radiator....about 4 linear feet both directions

My C-6 will run around all day at 150*+/-.......if I'm FLOGGING away on something it'll get up to 200 or so then cool right off once I settle down:rolleyes:

My opinion about guages:

Run your guage AFTER the coolers. The transmission fluid gets too hot for a conventional guage if placed before the coolers and will max it out...

You want to check the cooling of the system, not how hot your transmission cooks fluid.

Again my opinion as I did the it the other way and now have to buy another guage.

My temp pickup is in the pan and the guage is an Auotmeter....I also should note that my trans cooler fan is on a toggle...NOT a temp sensor.Once my trans gets over 150* I turn the fan on and run it till the temp is back at 150*.....I'm good at watching guages I guess.

I have trans temp probe in the hot line going to the cooler, line comes out near the back by the clutches so its hottest there. Auto meter sells trans tem guages specificly for this. I also just cut the hard lines, flared the ends a little and got some 350 psi rated rubber hose to go over it with a couple clamps. I run this setup on my cummins and works great.

My temp gague is pre coolers(yes, 2) and its worked fine for over 2 years. I can get it to 240 in a few minutes but have no idea what the return temp is...So i might change it. Maybee.

The probe for my temp gauge in my tow rig is in the pan. Autometer gauge. The whole setup was from summit.

Ok, so nothing real special then? I might try a pipe fitting w/ a barb then, that'll eliminate that flange leak and then i'll have flexible lines to and from.

Anyone have a link to the gauge they used, specifically the auto meter one?

Just go to summit racing and search autometer temp gauge.

go to dynimite diesel performance dot com. I think I paid $35 for my gauge:awesomework:

oh and ddp is in Monroe help suport our local venders:awesomework:

Food for thought......my oil pressure and water temp guages are "Accu-tech" IIRC(ie. cheap) and have never given me any issues....the trans guage is Autometer(bling-bling) and ANY time its raining...it fogs over....WTF:eeek:

I'll have to see what brand my tach is, I can't remember now, but i want to try and match that or get something close, basic black tach :looser: although I want one of those 8" Honda V-Tec Spec Tachs:redneck:

Buy another guage? Why? Just buy another sender, and wire it to the existing guage using a toggle switch. Switch one way reads one sender, the other way reads the other sender - both using the same guage.

Because the guage pegged around to the "backstop" and toasted the internals...

So the guage is dead...

My fluid gets that hot coming out of my switch pitch T400 tranny...

I run my tranny gauge out of the bottom of the pan, I also run the fan on a toggle switch and turn it on when the temp gets above 160. My tranny guy told me

"to keep it below 200 as the rubber seals in the tranny start getting mushy above that temp. Every ten degrees below 200 would double tranny life and they prefer around 150-160degrees".

hey joe were did you mount second cooler? my dodge someone has cut the lines already and added an afetrmarket cooler in front of rad. i could do another there i guess. just seems it would start to restrict air flow for radiator, and stuff.
i know i need a second cooler tranny temp light has came on before. and what about a lil fan on cooler?
sorry about hijack
