So the B&M shifter I have for my 700R4 is broken--the lever you left to shift it from park to drive, drive to rev, etc broke off, making it a bitch to shift.

so two questions: 1) is there a good aftermarket shifter that doesn't do the annoying lockout from neutral to reverse and 2) whats your favorite shifter periiod?

I need to get one quick--its basically undriveable.

I have had one of the B&M truck megashifters that shifts the same way as yours and i like it, it does get annoying with the lock out sometimes, but i have slammed that thing like a bat out of hell through gears and never had an issue:eeek: did yours come with the plastic shift knob of the metal one?

One of my Jeeps has the Art Carr shifter and it's great. One drawback is that the cable exits from the rear of the shifter, not the front. I have a Tuffy box so I had to raise it to allow the cable to go under it. It was a bit of a PITA but I love the shifter. I modified the shift gate to allow a 2nd to reverse shift. I've needed it a few times.
My other Jeep has a B&M Pro Stick. I did some grinding and a bit of welding and it's now a one hand shifter. You still have to squeeze a lever to shift but it's really easy to get to reverse or park.

Art Carr. These are simple and reliable. I buy mine at Billy Bobs Offroad 926-0447.

thanks for the advice.. I'm leaning towards the Art Carr shifter, although I *hate* that the cable comes out the rear -- my 4wd sticks are there =(
Guys with the Art Carr, with or without lockout? I'm thinking no-lockout will be less annoying... but I'd like to know if its saved you from doing something stupid

Some photos to see whats going on:

I wouldn't consider the reverse lock out feature. Obviously, getting to reverse quickly can be crucial at times. I cut the gates to allow easy access to reverse from 2nd. I've needed this feature a few times when I've almost gone over backwards. The shifter is still 'notchy' enough to hit 3rd easily without slipping into neutral.

The B&M gateshifters can be a poor mans Art Carr. The lockout is easily removed and you can file down the gates to make it shift how you want. Search pirate, there are threads on modifying it and pictures.

On my Art Carr shifter, I cut the notches out so I could go between 1st and reverse at full throttle. Maybe you could mount the shifter at an angle so the cable is on the drivers side of the transfercase levers.

I had a couple of the 90 dollar B&M shifters modified for my tastes.I just couldn't stomach paying for another shifter and then hacking it apart soooo this go-round I just built my own.It's for a C-6 with a park lockout pin and kicks ass. It also weighs well under 1.5 lbs and is super durable.

No pics......be creative:;
