I wouldn't consider the reverse lock out feature. Obviously, getting to reverse quickly can be crucial at times. I cut the gates to allow easy access to reverse from 2nd. I've needed this feature a few times when I've almost gone over backwards. The shifter is still 'notchy' enough to hit 3rd easily without slipping into neutral.
