I have an electronic autometer speedo that I am wiring up. I just recently swapped in a ramjet 350/ th350/atlas setup in my TJ and I have the tj factory electric sensor in the atlas. I got rid of the factory ecm and one of the wires says that it needs to go to that. Does anyone know a way around that other than buying a sensor that adapts mechanical to electrical and putting in a mechanical one in my atlas.:corn:

You are doing an (nearly) identical swap as I.

You have the wrong sender in the Atlas. But it shouldn't be a biggie. On my settup, I've got the Autometer speedo in my TJ, using the Autometer sender that came with the speedo head. I'm (planning on) using a Cherokee sender from a NP231 (mechanical sender, wrecking yard, $10) that adapts over to the electronic sender from the Autometer unit.

(edit- so I walk out to the garage, and look at the sender that Autometer gave me, and it's a two wire sender. The Cherokee I got the sender is a hybrid-electric-mechanical thingie. It's exactly like the early ones that were strictly mechanical, but with a electric two wire sender added to it. Much like the sender from Autometer)

I too got rid of all the TJ wiring and brain.

Another option, is the TH350 tranny should also have a sender (for the 2wd version) and you can always install a sender in that position and bypass the T-case completely. Yeah, you won't be accurate in low range, but who cares? However, you'll probably have to pull the transfer case to install the drive gear.

I'm not streetable yet, so I'm not totally sure my set up will work, but I really think it will.

Also, I've got a really neat dash cluster. See this link.

I read your write up before posting and tried to post on it and got refused. I will try to adapt the one in the tcase the same way then. What is the part number on the autometer sender you have?

update

My speedo came in a set from autometer. The set is number 1302. The Speedo has number 2650-1184 on the instruction manual. It came with it's own sender, however I do believe after reading the instructions, that the factory sender from the donor transfer case will also work. "The transmission's speedometer cable take off is 1000 RPM at 60 MPH. Most vehicless meet this requirement." It's is also a Calibration allowed. So I ** should ** be able to adjust the calibration, instead of changing the gear driven components.

Anyhow, I'm using the two wire sender. One wire is the pulse. One is ground.

And on the speedo head, there are 4 wires. One is the pulse (output to the sender), one is 12v ignition, one is ground. The last wire is to the PCM. ** I believe this is only used on those motors that require a speed signal to properly shift the tranny, control engine ignition signals, etc.,,, and is not needed on my application ** that's because the note says "This speedo provides an output terminal that can be used with late model using existing Vehicle Speed Sensors... yada yada yada"

so I can probably get away with my factory tj sender and just hook up the pulse wire to the guage, hook up 12 volts and ground it. I would think the my 97 wrangler sending unit would be the same as a cherokee one.
