How the heck does this thing come off? I have it loose, I removed all the bolts, but I can only pull it up so far before something on the pass. side of the transmission holds it from coming all the way off. Seems like shift mechanism is still stuck to some of the shift rails somehow but I can't see how to get it loose. What gives?

Somebody help! Preferrably someone who's taken apart one of these transmissions before?

havent taken one apart, but have you tried a different gear selection/ neutral to get it off? just had to throw it out there...

Something to try next time I work with it, I guess. I didn't think to do that while I was working on it today. I got discouraged and tackled the SYE install instead.

The other thing I thought about, but probably won't do unless it's a last resort, is just re-drill the output adapter on the XJ transmission for the YJ clocking. The castings are exactly the same, the bolt holes are just drilled in a different spot so the YJ t-case is clocked up further than in the XJ. The problem with this is getting it "perfect" so the output shaft lines up and all the studs on the t-case fit.

i would try N and differnt gears to get the selector out of the way... and if all else fails, drill and tap.
