I'm currently trying to track down some noises in my drivetrain and in the process I have the jeep on jack stands so i can listen while everything spins. Funny thing i noticed is that the rear wheels spin while the trans is in neutral. Is that normal? I'm thinking maybe with the fluid being cold that it might be creating enough drag to spin them. There's very little torque as I can stop it by just placing my hand on the driveshaft but it's enough that it can still spin even with the rear locker engaged.

The AX5 in my 93 YJ would let the rear tires spin when in neutral also. My samurai with the stock motor and trans would do it as well...in fact when it was cold and I'd let the clutch out after starting it it would actually feel like it was going to take off...usually worse when coldest.

Alright thanks. At least that's not a problem. Still have 2 sounds to track down. Got a chatter coming from the trans/tcase area while slowing down or coasting. Also a squeak/chirping coming from the rear tcase output. Thinking it might be a bearing in the sye, though there's no play in the output shaft.
