axle shaft lenght

What is the accepted way to measure front axle lenght? Is it tip of splines to center of ujoint cap? Or tip to tip? Tip of splines to face behind the C?

I have a ton of D44 front shafts of all kinds. Some I can remember, some I cant. If you guys tell me how to measure them so were all on the same page Ill post them up by measurement and see if you can ID or need one. Thanks :beer:

X2 on what crash said. That's how i got my front end axle length figured out for narrowing. :awesomework:
