What does it sound like when the CV joint starts going bad?? Mine has a little bit of play in it and all I cant here is a clunking and clicking noise..

Mine had alot of play in it clunked and vibrated, so i took the DL out and put it back in for 4WD. than im driving to hit a trail and ::LOUD BANG & CLUNKS:: it was broken.

so by the sound of it yeah yours is starting to go.

I'm pretty sure its the joint at least I hope so. I would rather rebuild a joint, than be pulling a tranny or T-case. :booo:

What's it doing?

all I can hear is metal clunking and crap. I know its not the rear end. I jack the jeep up on jack stands ran it in first. Had my wife hold the brakes a bit to act like its under load, then it started clunking. I crawled underneath and it sounded like it was the CV.

Damn I really dont feel like pulling that tonight. :booo:

I've had a cubic ass ton of play in the yoke (splines) on my front CV shaft FOREVER. No problems, no vibes or anything. Even though it is spinning all the time. You can move the yoke easily by hand up and down about 1/4 inch in each direction. And it doesn't vibe at all.

When the u-joints or centering ball start to go it sounds like angry sparrows.

alright I pulled it. I think I found the source of the clunking.
