Can someone give me some really 'basic' breakdowns of the differences in the toyota V6 engine families. Got a buddy who's asking me and I really don't have a clue on toyota engines. I know the 3.0 was around for a while, but what are they running now? When did they change? And idea what years generally interchange. Are the V8s interchangeable with the V6 bellhousings?

Or connect me with a site that is more toyota friendly?

Thanks in advance

From 89 to 92 toyota pickups and 4runners had 3.0 3vze engine from late 92 - 95 they had a distributorless version of the 3.0 3vz-fe. Toyota changed the
V6 with the Tacoma model in 95 or 96 it is a 3.4 liter 5vze. I believe they are still using 3.4 Liter platform for there V6 and the bell housings on these V6s do interchange as to the V8s and there swapability i have no idea but this site might help. www.offroadsolutions.com They are a toyota minded company that specializes in the 3.0 to 3.4 swap and may be able to guide you better than I in the V8 ?s. I also noticed your member of the dust devils my parents belonged to that club like 15 or 20 years ago that was when I caught the 4x bug.

Those three links will lead you to the three families of gasoline V6 engines made by Toyota. Engines from different famliies are for all intents and purposes, not compatible with eachother. There are a few exceptions such as the S-series bellhousing being able to accept a VZ-series engine, but this is irrelevant for us 4x4 folks. If you're looking to do an engine swap, stay within one engine family and you'll have a lot less hell to pay.

Don't bother with the MZ series. Those are installed in cars and light-duty SUVs, it has always been a transverse mounted engine.

The GR series is Toyota's latest gasoline V6. They've so far proven themselves to be reliable and powerful. I wouldn't play with one though unless you had godly amounts of knowledge and resources to complete a swap.

The VZ series is where most of the action is at. The most popular swap is the 3VZ(3.0L) to 5VZ(3.4L) conversion. This is a well-documented and relatively easy swap thanks to offroadsolutions.com.

Hey guys, what about the V8 toyota came out with? 4.7L, i think, V8 found in the Tundras. Are the bell housings the same as the 3.4, 3.0L?? Motor mounts? Could you bolt in a toyota V8 where there was once a 3.4?
