We built a 16' competition rig and cooked for 3 years on bbq circuit. If I could go back and do it again I would but it is not family friendly so I sold my stuff and went to my second love, off roading. We had 2 smokers. 1 horizontal 250 gallon offset reverse flow smoker and 1 insulated vertical reverse flow cabinet smoker. We built everything from scratch out of recycled materials. We had less than 2500 cash in it and competed against some of the biggest teams in the country. We called our trailer the "Low cash cooker" we had a whole lot of fun!!! The pictures kinda suck, we spent most of the time cooking.

I want to build a pit.

What did you use and where do you have the firebox?

Used bout 54 concrete block. Inside cooking surface is 64"x32". The fire pit is out beside it then scoop the coals under the cooking grate bout evey hour.

Me, and some buddies built this one about 3 years ago. Reverse flow with tuning plates, rib box, and a fire box made from old buck stove insert.
