So I have a 98.5 dodge diesel 5spd 4x4 and I would like the rear brakes to work better than they do, or actually work. Truck has 140k on it and the rear pads still look nearly new. I had heard somthing about using Chev 1ton wheel cylinders or master cylinder but don't know what year or model to look for. Any suggestions?

You have to adjust the rear brakes every time you change the oil, maybe even more often then that. The larger cylinders won't do anything for you if you aren't constantly adjusting them. Rear disc is the only way to go.

done a couple of these swaps at work, and definitely a huge improvement over the stockers...for the money invested, definitely a great improvement!!! You just have to remember when the next time the brakes are done, the wheel cyls aren't stock!:redneck:

Mine worked great also when I swapped them out.. But I didn't care to adjust them constantly. Doesn't matter if you have a larger cylinder if they aren't adjusted. Hell your stockers work just fine if you actually adjust them.

the issue i had with the bigger cylinders was the rear brakes locking up when unloaded on wet roads...other than that they were great

yup, mine did that as well.. First time I ever felt rear brakes on my truck :haha:. But then it went back to it's usual self... 160k on the truck and the rears look brand new..
