OK, So I have an 02 auto truck, Edge juice with attitude, Banks 4" monster exhaust and a Airaid cold air intake. I am curious;

What kind of boost should I be seein?
Stock:
Level 1: I get 18
Level 2: I get 20
Level 5: I peak at 24 but after shifts it's erratic

Also;
I don't really see much smoke on any level. I have a Carter replacement LP (I know) The FP stays above 5 accept if I romp it on level 5 it drops to 3 and boost is real erratic (17-24) on level 5, EGT's are over 1300 and little to no smoke.

Sorry for teh newbie questions but I've searched and searched and come up with nothing.

Also I have P codes;

P0216; IP timing
P0237; Low voltage from teh MAP sensor.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

For comparison and to answer your question...

My '00 auto, Edge Comp box, Banks 4", FASS, stock intake makes 38lbs at level 5.

Thats what I wanted to see, close to the same set up so a good comp. thanks nuzzy..... see ya next week for :beer:'s :awesomework:

Your fuel pressure is ****ed Sy.

1. You need to replace the injection pump.
2. You need to replace the lift/fuel pump. I'd recommend a FASS Pump as they come with a lifetime warranty now.
3. I'd try cleaning the MAP sensor before replacing it. It can be removed from the intake and cleaned with carb cleaner, may fix that issue. Also check the wiring harness & connector for cuts, shorts and general dirt in the contacts.
4. I'd also try removing the Edge, clearing the codes and see if they come back w/o the Edge connected.

As long as you have these issues I wouldn't be expecting much.

Do you have the HY9 turbo? I'm not sure what year Auto's came with them but they will not make much boost as the wastegate is pre-set and not adjustable.

I'd also try the NWbomber bbs.

Just for reference my '00 with stock turbo, Smarty level 5 and 60hp injectors can hit 45psi if I mash it ... but that little turbo will not last at that pressure. The HX35 is good for about 32psi max for consistent use, so I've been told. My fuel pressure with FASS pump puts out about 22-23psi idle and about 15psi WOT.

P0216; IP timing

Hope you have 1200-1400 saved for a new injection pump. Just wait until it starts doing the dead pedal to you, it will... that's really exciting while you'll pulling a steep grade with a trailer and it decides to start cutting out like you're not giving it any throttle at all.

Ditch the carter and go with a FASS system that replaces the lines from the tank all the way to the IP and gets you a much better pump, air seperator and filter setup... gets rid of the stupid banjo fittings and opens things up so you can feed that new pump a good supply of clean, cool, airless fuel.

My dodge, my dodge, my dodge... :haha:

Fuel cooler!! A Fass isn't enough. Lack of fuel doesn't kill the pumps. It's the heat that comes with lack of fuel. And even if you have plenty of it. The fuel can still be too warm when it hit's the injection pump. They operate in a certain range, and if they aren't in that range, they aren't happy.

Uhmmm...is everyone missing the fact that the IP is FUBAR and the fuel pressure is way down?

How is a cooler going to fix either one?

And for those of you worried about fuel temps have you removed or disconnected the fuel pre-heater?

I never said a fuel cooler will fix his problem. I said do it once the problem is fixed.

Post for clarity, per Jobless' post. You need a new injection pump. The P0216 code is the "death code" for the VP44 injection pump. It means it is going south fast, and will eventually quit completely on you.

Sorry. I just did one on my dodge, my dodge, my dodge almost exactly one year ago (weekend before mem. day weekend).

:haha: Coincedence.......or not. I happen to be right in the middle of and IP and LP job on an '02 that spit the PO216; removed the filter, and there was brass material in the housing from the failed LP, low psi under accel (3-4 PSI).
Now as for the reason these IP's fail, it is technically due to the lack of fuel, which provides lubrication(if you call today's diesel lubricive:rolleyes: ) and ultimately cooling for the IP....I guess it depends on how someone looks at it....
This job gets better-----HAS ANYONE EVER DONE THE INNER GEAR COVER GASKET DUE TO AN OIL LEAK? What a pita; pulling the cam in order to remove the cover--I really like Dodge's special tools for keeping the tappets up so you can pull the cam!!!:redneck: If you've got an oil leak at the front of the engine, look closely at the inner timing gear housing gasket......usually near the idler pulley the fan runs off of....

I just did RTV, screw pullin the cam unless it's getting a new one. And wood dowls work good for holdin them lifters up..

Yeah the dowels work fine---The owner wanted to do the proper repair on the oil leak; who am I to argue!!!

for $92 out the door I ain't complaning and that's what snoot said when he saw the 30 boost:haha:
I just bought it for the pyro:fawkdancesmiley:

30 psi and 1500 degrees? What are you driving, a Ford? :fawkdancesmiley:

As a matter of fact, I am! :flipoff:

That was pulling Manastash Ridge heading towards Yakima pulling the race car trailer, fully loaded. Never got below 65 the whole way up. I don't think I was above 1/2 throttle. :redneck:
