Bought this buggy a while ago and done quite a bit of work to her. I have never done any kind of build thread, but I figured I would post up to see what you guys think of the transformation.

This was the add picture when I bought it. The skins had a little more character than what was actually advertised.

Here is the original parts list to give you a little background info.

**Trans has FRESH REBUILD Nov 20 2011 zero rides

-T-case - Ford Dana 20, AA 32 spline output assembly, custom cable twin stick, KOZ custom clocking ring Driveshafts - built by Joint Clutch and Gear, 1410s rear, 1330s front ---Front Axle - 1989 Ford D60, KOZ highsteer arms, lincoln locked, GLO front diff cover, 35 spline alloys, NEW SOLID DRIVE FLANGES, NEW 5.38 GEARS
-Rear axle - 1989 Ford Sterling 10.25, lincoln locked, NEW 5.38 GEARS

Suspension Links - Triangulated 4 link front and rear, QA1 heims, 7/8 x 7/8, 1-3/4" x 3/8" lowers, 1-1/2" x 1/4" uppers, weld in bungs. Shocks - Fox 14"x2" fronts, 12"x2" rear

Steering - Full Hydro, Danfoss orbital, TSC single end ram, 1-1/2" x 1/4" tie rod, 3/4 x 3/4 heims.

Tires and Rims - 17" Aluminum Walker Evans wheels and like new 39 BFG red label Krawlers

Misc - 108" WB, 82" outside tire to outside tire, metal roof,20" belly, kirkey seats with covers and extra added padding, small 10" tsteering wheel,MSD external fuel pump, Optima red top, HID headlights,Nice stereo system, Dual Wilwood master cylinders

After purchasing I added a few things. Swapped out the air shocks for Radflo Coilovers, added a 8,000lb. XRC competition synthetic rope, and reworked the 4 link.

Took it out for the first ride since the additions. First trail I went about 100 ft. and cut one of the rear coilovers in half.

Also ended up having transmission failure on the same ride. The newly rebuilt tranny was combined with a junk yard torque converter that went boom.

The next ride out the transfer case continued to pop out worse than before, and I could no longer hold it in gear. I swapped out the tcase gears for some Tera lows since they OEM's were toast and had everything in the case cryo treated. I also had a new front driveshaft made and swapped the yokes out to 1350's.

I then cut everything off the front axle and added an Artec truss with full hydro mount, PSC double ended ram, Reid Racing knuckles, Artec high steer arms, Artec Knuckle Bolt Kit, 2" 7075 Links, 7/8's chromoly Heims, 4340 Inner shafts, PSC P pump, Rear wheel spacers, A/C delete, James Duff twin stick shifter, and Spicer joints. After me and good friend cut everything off of the front end and added all the parts, the poor buggy looked really beat. The thin race car skins crinkled like a coke can just by looking at them. I decided it was time for a bit of a face lift. I figured all new skins and a nice wrap would do the trick.

Here are couple of before pics.

I decided make an actual hood instead of taking the easy way out and just using a flat piece of sheet metal like before. After beating on it a while with a mallet, I realized I didin't have the skills or the patience to achieve the look I was going for. So I brought in a friend who worked at a sheet metal shop. I think it turned out pretty good.

I am just about finished up. I only have the dash to put back in and mount the 2 Led Light bars.

I took these photos with my cellphone and they didn't turn out too good. I will get some better photos up when I get it finished.

Glad to see your rebuild of that buggy. Don't know what it was but I always liked that one.

Like it even more without the GA sticker on it!

Jason love the new skins. I,m the guy at gm that had the nitrogen kit that aired your old air shock up when you broke your radflo. Next time we ride together I'd like to get the name of the shop that done your skins. I'd like to cover my jeep, if possible

Hey Hal,

Good to hear from you, the guys name is Trinity Claud. He is in Goodlettville and does excellent work. Let me know if you need his number and I will get you in touch with him. I am hoping to be riding this weekend. If the weather holds up we will be at GMP. If you not doing anything you should come ride. We have a pretty good group lined up for the weekend.

Why did the coilover break in half? :o

I bounced the buggy backwards off a muddy ledge onto a tree. The tree wedged perfectly between the tire and chassis, shearing the top part of the coilover in half. It was just one of those weird occurrences. It was my own dumbass fault, no fault of the part at all. Although I never knew how thin the walls of a coilover really was, till cutting one in half like a hot knife through butter. I figured there would have been a little more material.

Buggy looks great. I was impressed with how good it worked when I rode in it before your modifications. How do you like the coilovers vs the air shocks?

Every time someone buys this buggy it gets a better, it was a great working Buggy when my friend owned it, the new skins are awesome, I to, even being from Ga. agree that it looks Soooooooooooo much better without that stupid GA sticker :****:

Next project is to cut off the god awful rear truss and ditch the poly brake lines. I am however going to take it out and enjoy it a little before then. Hopefully I will have it the way I want it before the Dixie Run.

Not a whole lot of difference. It did stiffen it up a little and it seems to ride a little better (not as rough). The buggy has always done well and fits me good. I guess that is why I haven't sold it yet. Your buggy is looking awesome can't wait to see it done. Do you think it will be ready for the Dixie Run?

buggy is looking damn good! we need some better pics of that sweet artec truss! lots of sweat and black boogers went into that, along with a missed meal with our wives...hahaha!

Rig looks good. Maybe I can get mine finished so we can go ride again. hitit

Sounds good man. My wife still talks about the last ride. We are needing a repeat after dealing with our little devil for the past 2 years. Hope the new rig doesn't weigh as much as Brutus or I may need to get a better winch.

I worked on that buggy a few times and you are the 4th person I know to have owned it. 3 Michiganders and now you. It has always been a good working buggy. Mike the original owner and builder (Motor City Machines) builds some killer rigs, a few of them run Ultra 4 class he now has the Pac racing springs buggy. You have cleaned it up nice :woot: :woot:

Dont think you will have to worry about the new rig she is light. I should have it finished up some time next month. Hope to be riding soon. See you at GMP :driving:

Thanks. I am trying to finish it by Dixie Run. I worked on it over 14 hours yesterday. I don't get as much accomplished per hour as a professional fabricator. The chassis is almost ready for final welding and I should get it painted early next week.
