So I had been looking for another Toyota to build. Had a budget of $2000 to spend on the rig so I wanted to find one that was stock and unmolested. So I had been browsing Craigslist for some time and noticed this 79 Toyota for $1200. Looked at the pictures and looked clean. Called the guy and he said that it needed a battery and he thought a coil and igniter cause he said it had no spark. I offered him a $1000 and said ill bring my trailer.

Went there couple days later and was pissing rain. I through a battery in it just to make sure it had compression. All was good. I used the starter and drove it up on the trailer. Made the deal and headed home with the new toy.

So With the truck home I had to get it running. I didn't even bother seeing if had spark or not. I wired in a more common 81-83 coil and igniter and still got nothing. Then I noticed the fuel filter was empty and pointing the wrong way. So I sprayed some ether in the carb and it ran. Now knowing I had a fuel issue I dropped the tank and pulled the fuel pump. One of the rubber lines on the pump had fallen off. I put it back on, put a clamp on it, reinstalled the tank and new fuel filter. Bam truck runs awesome!

To date I've changed the fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor, exhaust manifold gasket, and installed some 4runner buckets and an ammo can for a center console. Also had to replace the rear slider since one of the windows was broken.

Specs on the truck. It's a 79 longbed, with a 20r and 4speed non powersteering. It did come with an old school 3" lift(I think rough country), black steelies, and 32" at's. The truck has 141xxx miles and runs like a top. It doesnt leak, or burn any oil. I adjusted the valves and while doing so looked down into the timing chain to see if the guides were wearing or feel the chain for slack. Feels great and doesnt make a sound so Im hesitant on changing it at the moment. The exhaust is bone ass stock and original from 79! Can not believe the shape its in. The truck is super quiet and have gone through multiple drives thru's and people compliment me on how quiet the truck is for its age.

So right now I have a complete marlin hi-steer. I already hunted down and purchased the ps compents. Im waiting to order my longfields, gears, locker and knuckle service before doing the histeer. This truck will be Marlin built with a few things from Front Range also. Plans right now are Aussie's front and rear w/ 5.29's. Marlin suspension, and duals. Gonna keep the duals stock in both cases. Going to buy Marlins cage and build the rest of the bumpers and sliders.

So stayed tuned. Parts will be rolling in shortly and this build will be going.

I saw that. But I only want your adapter and rear case. You made it pretty clear you dont want to separate:fawkdancesmiley:

You are correct, it'd be a sick setup in a first gen.. Although I think it's going into a second gen in OR next week... :D

My first gen has a visor... I'm going to rock that shiat with pride... :haha:

You going with low lift or building the run of the mill monster yota?

I just want my hi-steer to clear. I have plenty of room for tires:cool:

So it came out nice. We might add a bar above the winch. I still have to get some led's to replace the stock blinkers. Also need to pick up a Hawse fairlead and bolt it up.

Nice job Gavin! Need a matching dent for the other side. :redneck:

Let me know if you have issues with the LED blinkers. The stock blinker relay doesn't like them unless you get a blinker light with lots of LEDs.

Need to wheel again soon.

Figured Id bring this back from the dead since its been a year. After getting the bumper built I put some 34x950r15 tsls on it. Still rocked no power steering and a welded rear. The TSL's blew goats. Blew like 6 beads in one day. So those went and my buddy Nick(TTF FAB) sold me his 35x13.50r15 Toyo's for cheap. So I rocked those. Did a couple more trips w/o power steering still and rocking 80's lift springs.

I wheel with Greg(Heep70) a few times since he can drag me around when the old boat gets stuck. Anyway the old 79 the last year has been a hell of a truck for what it is, basically stock. Well all the abuse finally added up. Both rear springs are bent, blew the welded 3rd up, and blew the tranny up. So the poor truck has been sitting. I got a hair up my ass the other night and pulled it in the garage for its makeover.

Since everyone has been saying I need to spend some money on the old girl, I figured it was time to do it. So I yarded the old side shift 4 speed out to replace that with a good ol L52. The I figured the bed should probably get shortened now to. So Nick came over and we took 16" out. We still have to shorten the frame and weld the tail back on, but it was a good start.

Anyway hope you enjoy my rambling. Theres gonna be a lot more to come.

Gavin

So Beau(greysquirell) was nice enough to let me use his 110v welder. My good buddy Nick came out to help me get the back part of the bed welded/tacked on. And cut off part of the frame.

Tonight we got the frame cut, tail section well tacked and got the passenger dent pretty well worked out. Need to get a hammer and dolly set to really get the tail light section back on. I have to give a huge props to Nick. He has done 90% of this bob job and spent a lot of his time making sure all of the body lines are straight and our gaps are even.

Also notice how I saved the 3rd hook that got cut out. Got to have 3 hooks on a longbed:redneck:
