I'll be down there doing the rubicon (Close to sacramento) august 11th-15th.

lol, leaving on the 15th.

i have heard that the hammers is kinda like rimrock: 90% of the trails you can do fairly easily, and with minimal damage, but there is that one trail where if you screw up, you die (or in crashes case, perform a graceful pirouette and flop on your lid). true?

The hammers will kick your ass. Depending on what trails you run, it may leave you sloppy and in pain.

I hope you like the heat......you are nuts to go to the hammers in august, it can get 120-130 degrees that time of year in the canyons, if you do take lots of water and another vehicle or two. be careful.

Not sure where you heard that .... The trails that I was on you need 38s or better , lockers front and rear and strong axles and low gear ratio. You will get body damage if you are a full body rig.

hmmmm.....sounds like the hammers are out. i like my nice straight body. and a black truck with no a/c in 120 degree heat? no way.

where is the rubicon? i do have lockers f/r, and a 8k lb winch, but not many spare parts, and a strong dislike for body damage.

The rubicon is near placerville. East of sacto.

Your truck could do it with no body damage.

now, should i be worried about overheating on the grapevine? i know my truck will pull the hill, slowly but surely, and i will probably be getting passed by big rigs, but thats ok. as long as i dont break down.

I would not travel many, many, many miles and wheel the Hammers, Rubicon, or any area out of state for that fact by myself. Yes, there might be others on the trail if you go on a weekend, but why risk it. If you want to do any

well south of sac and just east of Fresno there is some good wheeling. bunch of trails Dusy, Swamp Lake, ect. near ventura/palmdale theres gorman not the greatest but some wheeling.

Theres a ton of places....You can go offroad basically anywhere. I got some links at home Ill look up.

One of the ones near me is Calico trails/Ghost Town. Requirements are 35" tires and rear locked iirc.

Ill post up more when I get home...

up by sacremento tons of trails, down by the grapevine theres a few. but august is hell down this way. august is the hottest months down here in august. last year there was a few weeks, that even by 5am it wasn't below 100 degrees... i would stay away from the hammers, death valley, southern arizona, glamis, superstition mtns california, so. cal. east of the mountains... you could try hollister hills. another good thing would to look at is,

big bear area would be good. the san bern. nat. forest.
