Well since there have been questions and a lot of speculation about the new build I thought I would go ahead and start a build thread. I went by and snapped a couple of cell phone pictures today. It has been going a little slower than I had hoped, but hopefully when we roll it out we will not have too many bugs to work out.

The fab work and assembly is being done locally by Chris Brown, owner of White Rhino Fab. Chris joined the team last fall and opened his shop to us to prep the single seat car for KOH. He has a shop full of tools to do complete custom fab work. He can make any bracket you need, has an iron worker, metal brake, english wheel, plasma table, tig welder, mig welder, and many other tools to do the job. He can make any brackets and tabs you need, he specializes in tube fenders so if you have been looking for a set for a Jeep I can give you his number.

On to the specs.

Jimmy's 4x4 poison ivy chassis

**** 4400 is going to be a SPEC Jimmys class before we know it.

I cant believe the surface rust on that thing, must be a SLOOOOOWWWWW build :flipoff1:

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Looks good Joel. Surface rust is a BITCH....FAT UGLY ONE :puke:.

Hats off for the beads in everything. The little bit I did on mine I figured out it was HARD to keep them straight to the eye.

Got any updates on this build  :flipoff1:

Haha, yeah it had some surface rust on it when I got it. Part of working on one in the humidity in a shop with no a/c I guess. It may just get clear coated over the surface rust... (no, not really)

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

What stahl is that converter? Looks like 1200rpm or lower.
Are you building your rear lower links like trailing arms?
I am liking the 4400 stuff more and more.

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Looks great Joel, keep the pics coming. Any paint scheme in mind? :dunno:

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Bitchen metal work! Can't wait to see more.

14 bolt rear....who's yer daddy! :dblthumb: Running any selectable lockers?

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

That was one of the chassis from Carl right Joel? That might be one reason for the surface rust. Jimmy's chassis are very popular and doing very well

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Why is the rear firewall ran top to bottom? Completely blocking your rear view and how are you gonna run the hoses for the parker pumps?

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

I'm thinking that he doesn't want a hot coolant bath as it looks like their is a scoop built in for air, but I would want more air flow with a smaller rad mounted in the rear. Guess you will have to drill holes to run the pumper hoses.

Take some better pictures, of the whole ride so we can see what is going on....

No trailing arms yet, standard aluminum links for now. I got a 2600 rpm converter.

Got some things in mind on the paint scheme, the hood will be wrapped for sure.

Exactly what you said. If we see a problem with cooling we will address it. To be honest I am not convinced we will NOT have a cooling issue, but we will see. If we do we come back and cut a big circle out of the firewall. Not a big deal really. But there are several inches between the firewall and the scoop is bigger than it looks in the pictures. And yes we will have holes to run the pumper hoses through.

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Just and idea that I saw on the BTF car yesterday. They have a complete firewall between the seats and rad, but it is in 4 seperate panels. The two panels on the outside of the car are solid, the two on the inside between the driver and co-driver's heads have wire mesh to get some airflow to the rad. Some protection from coolant, but still allows good airflow.

Yeah that is the way Cambell does his using the mesh. I have a link saved on a source for the mesh. We may wind up going that way if we have cooling issues.

No need to look behind you when you're always bringing up the rear.... :flipoff1:

Just giving you a hard time man, Its looking good real good!

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Will used a camera for his rear view. It seamed to work. I think some good side views will work just as good. I wouldn't be concerned with looking behind you through a center mounted rear view mirror. That area on a car is great for storage and more practical for other things than seeing whats behind you.

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Side mirrors suck for woods racing, I have some small clamp on mirrors that I am going to mount inside the window net. Decent vision and it is protected from trees and rocks. Camera is a good idea also

Re: Camco Rock Racing 007 build

Yeah I am not too concerned with what is going on behind me. I will have side view mirrors which are required by the rules. I do like the idea of a rear camera though, that would help when you are having to back up in a canyon where it is tight and you don't want to back over somebody.
