A buddy of mine is prepping his stock mod rig for next year. He wants to narrow the rear axle a little. Well, since you can't cut the frame, mounting your shocks can get tricky. He's thinking about going to a cantilever suspension on the rear. I myself don't understand how they work or any pro's and cons about them. He's also thinking about using struts, since they work up to a 50 degree angle.

Whatcha got :afro:

I talked to him on the phone for a while. I think it'll work, you can get away with way less stroke, but need WAY more damping and load carrying capacity (assuming you are doing it for room reasons). I would like to draw on something, but have to get back to the shop and fix a backhoe :-\

So if you use struts the dampining will have to be increased to compensate for the additional load, cantilever suspensions create. I think the Littles run them on their rig. What size struts are they running?

Me and Bill are the ones trying to build it. We've almost scrapped the idea, mainly because it's pretty complicated, and more importantly, we can't package it. There's to much stuff going on in too little of a space.

Not exactly sure what you're looking for but...

So are ya'll going 86 the whole cantilever idea? I was looking forward to the build. :'(

I think so. I think we're going to try coils and nitro shocks, if we're not happy we'll change from there.
