I went to pull the truck in the garage to put some goodies on it and it wouldn't start.

Here's what I have found. My Holley electric pump IS working, its pushing about 4 psi at the carb.

I checked all my filters, those are all good. I have fuel coming all the way into the carb, but can't see any fuel spray in the carb.

its an Edlebrock Performer 600.

I know nothin about carbs, any help/tips would be great.

This carb has been on the truck for several years now and this is the first time its really given me any trouble at all.

I was able to get it to start off fumes from carb cleaner but it would die as it burned up the fumes, so I know the truck would run if it was getting fuel.

Thanks for any help. Gotta get this going so I can make the run next weekend at Reiter.
:booo:

sounds like the float may be stuck. Rap the bowl area with a screwdriver handle or such and see if that frees up the float and needle seat. you could also try spraying some carb cleaner down the vents and any other tube or hole you can and see if that frees it up. Other that that your going to have to take the top off and clean the bottom of the float bowls out.

If you have access to air you can also gently blow some air in the fuel inlet of the carb....

How long till it was last run? Might be plugged up with gummed up fuel. Worse comes to worse I got a edelbrock 600 kickin around you could borrow for next weekend. I'm just right down the road from ya in Black Diamond:beer: .

Also if you wanna tear your carb apart and clean it out real good you could come dip it in my barrel of carb cleaner. It'll work better then new :redneck:

So I had a couple hours to mess with the truck tonight.

I pulled the carb off the truck, pulled the top off of it. everything looked pretty clean. the floats seemed to move freely. I sprayed everything down with carb cleaner and drained it all out. Still no luck, so I tried removing the porcelan (sp?) filter from the fuel inlet on the carb. Still couldn't get it to fire.

I'm seeing a small amount of fuel spray coming from the primaries I assume (front two barrells of the carb) when I open the throttle.

Couple other questions. What kind of pressure should I be reading at my gauge thats on the fuel inlet? Should it be a steady pressure, my pressure seems to jump around a bit, 2.5 to 4 pounds.

Also, when I shut my pump off the fuel pressure falls back to O psi...does a carb set up not use anysort of check valve to hold pressure?

and to answer the question, it was last ran in early June I'd guess.

Big thanks to Chris, Bobbed_toy_84. He came out and gave me a fresh brain and pair of eyes to work with. I knew there was moisture in the fuel but I thought I was seeing a little bit of water with the gas. Turns out i was seeing a little bit of fuel with the water. We pumped about 8.5 gallons of the mix out before it turned to mostly gas. After it all settled in the buckets there was about 7 gallons of water.

So looks like I have either pissed off the wrong neighbor or the seal on my fuel cell is bad.

Either way we got it running so it should be on for this weekend. :cheer:
