im looking at a yj tomorow and the guy says its a 90' I6 carbed. im assuming its the 4.2, or did they make the 4.0 that year carbed? anyways how are the 4.2's? good, bad, piece of ****? if someone has a link about these engines post it and ill shut up.

4.0 didn't come in the wranglers until '91. It's a 4.2, it's carb'ed, and unless the rig is a screamin' deal, hold out for a 4.0, you'll thank me.

i probably will hold out. if i get a jeep i want something FI anyways. but not a lot of jeep guys want to trade for a toyota:redneck:

IF the price is REALLY REALLY good, the 4.2 isn't THAT bad. Otherwise, hold out for a 4.0. I ran mine /w a Weber on it /w good results. The stock carb sucks but the motor itself is allright.

If its cheap get it. slap on a TBI kit and you'll be just as good as a 4.0. Mine was originally a 4.2 carb'd. I hated the carb with a passion.

carb is the only issue... i had a 90 YJ w/carbed 6cyl

i know i would've liked to have full hard doors/top for winter. i had the half doors/solft top.

this is the description, he said the motor was rebuilt and has papers for it but doesnt have the milage when it was done:

have a 90 yj jeep with a soft top and arb air lockers front and rear not sure the gearing but 4 wheel works great and has a warn m8000 lb winch and evrything just replaced the passenger ujoint, clutch was done a year ago, fuel pump and tune up fuel filter also a year agao still have recipts and the starter maybe 7 months along with the battery.has a streight six carb,5 speed not sure what transfer case also had a new header and gaskett along with the catalic converter, and put on a 3"body lift

it would be in a trade, i dont know **** about carbs really and am just looking for a reliable daily driver that i could still wheel. having the arbs is what made me consider it.

i would but i need a dd/wheeler. im moving to lacey at the end of the month. if i kept my truck i wouldnt be able to drive it from there to everett and back.

I think if it is a 90 with a 5 spd then it has the crappy peugot manual transmission. Dont buy it. With a 4.2 and a peugot it isnt worth it. Just wait until you find one with a 4.0 and ax15

Edit: It has the ax15. So I guess it isnt all that bad.
