I think its time for a new carb on my truck. (454 BBC) It currently has a Quadrajunk on it. I dont want to get it rebuilt. I have a Carter carb somewhere , its farely new, but I'm unsure of the CFM.

Whats a good carb designed for towing?

the Q jet built right is a great carb.Mainly due to small primarys and large secondarys. the AFB design is all right as well but if you can find or have a thermoquad thats a carb that will move a lot of fuel. have the carb (q-jet) rebuilt and then dialed in. Theres a guy that works at bills dyno tune in tacoma that builds killer qjs and includes his time to dial it in on the dyno.(still have to pay for the dyno time) but its well worth it.

Yeah I think its like 75$ an hour on the dyno. If you ever just want your carb gone through to check for stuck floats its like 40$ plus parts which are usually cheap.

carbs

stick with the q-jet best carb ever made! have a modified one on my jeep from hedworth racing and has been reworked to 830 cfm. he will build you one for rv/towing not cheap but worth the money.

are u talking about jack? if so...i agree he knows what hes doin...ive known him close to 20 years....

You should ditch the carb idea, and go with a factory TBI unit. I have one that is from a 1989 Camaro, on a 1974 Chevy 350. Or go with this http://www.gotpropane.com/. Much better than a quadratoilet.

If you do stay with a carb, definitely go with a Thermoquad, a total retard can rebuild it(there are something like 14 parts, quadrajet has something like 500 parts[slight exaggeration]), and they are very dependable. Just my opinion.
