I'm ordering crap to do one of my winter projects, which is freshening up my 305.

I'm going with a cam set by Comp Cams but it doesn't come with push-rods. So I need to order up a set, problem is I don't know the measurements.

I have a 2nd set of heads that I had machined recently that I'm going to use, when I bought those the guy gave me his old pushrods and lifters. Am I right in thinking I can take measurements off those push-rods to order my new ones? Are all Gen1 V8 push-rods the same length, or do I need to wait to order my push-rods till i pull my motor apart and get a measurement off the push-rods in my motor?

:eeek:

I've built many SBC motors and to the best of my knowledge, all Gen 1 SBC push rods are the same length. That said, I have seen some that are adjustable but I've never used them.

I saw adjustable or cut-to-fit ones on Summit but I'd rather stay away from those.

The heads i had machined, are 305 heads that he had installed on a 350. With that said, it still shouldn't make a difference in the push-rod lenght would it? :corn:

the only time ive had to change rod length is when i ran an aftermarket head world products and also on my trick flow aluminum heads....most every stock head should use the stock length* unless....your running a big reground cam,in which case it wall have a smaller base circle thus needing a longer pushrod.....so you should be fine with stock length..ide put it together before you buy the push rods..mock one up with a used one and make sure....

if you dont have a huge cam, use them over. clean em, blow through them, then look at the ends. if there is nice shiny wear and they all look the same run em. stocks work great for FREE.

I thought of going to a 350 but i've been running this tired old 305 thats been running on 7 cylinders the last few trips out...:redneck: so I think a fresh 305 with a cam will be plenty of power, along with the jump to 5.13's and 42's I should be pretty comfy.

I forgot your not far from me...check your PM's.
