My buddy picked this up the other day at the local pic a part out of a late 80s camaro with the harnass and im wondering if these are good or what there is in the aftermarket for it, throttle bodies...injectors...and the the computer? who makes or tunes a decent computer for these and is easy to deal with??

Good piece, plenty of aftermarket support. Not the best for all-out banzai performance but can support some pretty good horsepressure. Top end airflow is a little weak (6000 rpm or more) but torque is good. Stock ECM with a chip or tuner, whichever it takes. Depends on year.

its from an 87 i believe and he doesnt have a computer for it so he will hafta pick one up, i wasnt sure if someone sold one to order with specs off his motor or not :dunno:

i know this name always pops up, but jims performance did a TPI harness and computer for me pretty reasonable a few yrs ago. he knows about anything you want to know about that stuff

"TPIS" i think the guys name is Mryon ! they have alot of aftermarket parts that add several horsepower !!!! they have helped me out several times getting me in the right direction !!!!! :dblthumb:

make sure you he don't get them suckass tbi swirlport heads for it and he will be a lot happier- look for the aluminum heads off of a corvette from the same era i think they are called L98's....tpi setups work pretty damned good on a stock engine, i've always heard it's hard to get the ecm to act right if you put aftermarket cam in though

Selfish bump, but I've go the Throttle body (1000cfm) and runners you need
Their in my forsale thread...

I made 422 hp with one of these stock units with a nice chip and injectors ( was 11 to 1 comp) zz4ish cam

Nice setups

jim's performance told me the tpi setup can only support 285 hp, i was gonna put that setup on my roller 383 till he told me that. the more radical cam the less computer can recongize wtf is goin on.

The runners and Tbody I have WILL flow enough

The cam size can be tricky. I ran a 238/245 duration with a 478/513 lift and it ran like a scalded dog... It can be done

I ran a Crate ZZ4 350 with a Paxton supercharger and big tube runners On my TPI and it ran like a scolded ape. Street and Performance did my tuning.
That was about 13 years ago when TPI was the **** before all this new LS stuff.
