The last few years I've gone out with friends down in Southern Oregon to go christmas tree hunting. It's always a good time, we all load up in our tow-rigs head out to mountains and head up the forest service roads, spend the day playin in the snow in the tow-rigs, and looking for trees.

This year I don't think I'm going to make it down with the tow-rig to go out with them, so I was wondering if anyone local (Puget Sound area) does it?

I'm thinkin sometime around thanksgiving/first week of December. Where would I find more info on getting a tag/permit to cut a tree and the areas its allowed? :corn:

I'll be going this year with some first timers.

EDIT: I am looking for the correct info.

I would highly recommend I-90 over 410 and US2. The trees are much better and accessible down lower. Where you going Ben?

Just don't let me catch ya in my back yard cutting down one of my tree's... :stirpot: We have some great spots allong I-90. But i usually end up just buying one from my local farmer. :awesomework:

We usually head out 410 and stop at the ranger staion in Enumclaw to get our permits. They don't have the info up for that area yet.

Ben what type of rigs you guys taking out? I'd be interested in heading out with you guys if its tow-rig friendly. The wife and I would be coming in my 3/4 ton Silverado, stock + small lift and 35" A/Ts. I'll have chains and 4wd to play in the snow.

Copper Creek in Ashford...fun Snow run as well

This will be my first year getting my own tree...

You can get the permit from any Forest Service ranger station. They also will tell you exactly where the good trees are. I usually go out to Mt Baker highway and stop at the ranger station outside of Glacier.

True. Any ranger station, and I think you used to be able to get the permits at REI too. We did that for many years, but the wife finally decided she wants a tree with less than 2' between the branch layers. So we skip the tree permit, and just go play in the snow and drink hot cocoa. We've gone up around Asahel Curtis and Mount Pilchuck.

If you're thinking about getting a tree from up in the mountains that early, be sure to let it acclimate outside for a couple days before bringing it in the house or you won't have any needles left by Christmas.

Me and Boxxerace and his family usually take a couple rigs and go get trees, he usually brings a few friends too. Im sure you would be welcome to join our adventure if you would like this year

I go xmas tree hunting in my storage space each year... that bastard is only 14' tall, and pre-lit, and it still manages to "hide" from me. Hell I almost need to load its sections in the truck and drive it from the garage up to the front door... that in of itself is enough hunt for me...:fawkdancesmiley:

We will probably take my Dodge which is 4x4 and stock. I thought about pulling the wheeler out there but its only a 2 seater so I doubt I will.

Anyone up for this?

Maybe over by Forks since it's a National forest and a beautiful drive, especially if it snows ?

The Wheelers of Washington are heading down to Ashford on SUN 12/06...tree permits are 5 bucks.

In years past, I have purchased a $10 tree permit at the Enumclaw Ranger Station & cut my tree on FS70 Road just outside of Greenwater.

Let us know if you want to join us our tree run.
