Alright, who has experience running what clutches, and what can you tell me about them?

I currently have (had?) a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch, which during this last trip finally started slipping on me. I have really liked this clutch for the most part (aside from a heavy pedal in slow areas), and have had it in the truck through 3 motors, and 4 years after buying it slightly used installed on the original motor. Its obviously lasted a while.

Anyway, I was thinking about just ordering a Marlin Crawler super heavy duty clutch. I can get another Centerforce for another $70, but I would need to order a new throughout bearing and pilot bearing seperately. Ultimately it would be about $100 more I assume. Im stuck trying to decide if I should just go with something I know, or save a little money and go for the Marlin, which also includes everything I need. I obviously just dont know how it will hold, engage, pedal feel, life expectancy, etc as compared to the Centerforce.

So, has anyone had any experience with the Marlin clutch versus a Centerforce by any chance? Or what have you used and had good luck with offroad?

My truck is an 84 with a 22R motor, LC heavy weight flywheel, single case, and 37" tires.

Centerforce II--The toy version of the dual friction is garbage compared to the II......

I guess I should also state that I dont know EXACTLY which one it is. I seem to remember its different colors on both sides of the friction disc (one side is different than the other), so I assume its the dual friction. It also has the weighted pressure plate and such.

I only see the dual friction listed at Summit Racing, where can I look for the Centerforce II?

And off road vender-usualy can get them

But sounds like a dual friction to me...

Hmm, Ill poke around and Google for a while to see what I turn up. Thanks Crash.

EDIT: Part number search at Summit turned up the Centerforce II. I had been searching by application, not part numbers.

My last clutch was Marlin's Super duty clutch kit and it worked flawless (until of course I got rid of that motor/tranny combo):redneck:

I wanted one of Marlin's clutches for my 2RZ/R151F but he doesn't make one! He has one for the 3RZ but it is too big for my flywheel, so I just ordered a Competition Clutches 1620 6 puck clutch after talking with the owner of the shop: http://www.paradiseracing.com/index.htm The owner has a turbo/nitrous 2RZ powered AE86 Corolla that did a 7.86sec 1/4@186 mph.

Cascade Friction on Puyallup Ave in Tacoma can set you up with a Kevlar clutch. i love mine and it was in my rig for 6 to 7 years and still going strong. they are a bit grabby but dont slip or let go even when wet. it is tough enough that the guys there told me i didnt need to resurface my fly wheel " it will do it for you". my new one (changed it when i put in the new pressure plate & throwout) was $120.00 for the disc, $45.00 for the 3 finger pressure plate. light pressure plate for a smoother and easier pedel but still dosent slip.

I have the centerforce dual friction in my jeep have had it for 3 years still goin strong went through 2 stock clutches and will never go back.

Been running the marlin with my 3.4 and love it. It's taken 2 years of daily driving on 37's plus quite a bit of trails

I'm with WT on this! But I got the 1200, and I didn't get the flywheel stepped like Marlin recommends. It grabs good. And I've yet to slip it. I've hauled some pretty good loads of wood up some steep firebreaks and it did not let go one bit. I wouldn't get one from anybody else!

I got the 1200 thinking the 1600 would be to heavy on the leg, but the 1200 engages and disengages very easy, easier than the stock clutch, or the centerforce that a buddy has in his. I definitely would go 1600 next time, if this one ever wears out!

So it sounds like a tie between the Marlin and Centerforce. Im thinking I might go with Marlins just because its a little cheaper and comes with everything I need, but honestly, Im having a hard time spending money there right now due to recent events/purchases...
