When looking at getting a new clutch, what would most of you go with?

Stock or HD?

HD or ceramic?

What about which type of pressure plate? stock is 900 lbs, HD is 120 lbs, and really HD is 1600 lbs.

And why?

I had a cermaic in my 89. Once you get used to it its not a bad clutch. Definatly not a clutch you can feather, its either in or out. When its in between it grabs then releases and makes the truck jerk. It aaplied instant traction but caused the rear tires to spin on hills too much to get going again... I went with the 1200lb pressure plate. The cool thing is it will never slip. Im gonna go with a normal style clutch in my next rig though...the ceramic was just too much of a pain for a DD...it did sweet burnouts though.

Ive got a Centerforce dual friction in my truck. I like it. Heavier pedal feel than I really like, but not horrible at all. It engages pretty smooth and easy, unless you just wanna drop it and it will grab like no tomorrow.

I would recommend getting something a little more than stock no matter what route you take. My girlfriends 4Runner has a stocker in it, and I have to feather it way more than I like on certain things. If you take the truck off road at all, you might as well spend a little more for something that will grab a little better than stock.

if you have a hydrolic clutch you won't feel extra pressure,i run a stock one and am turning 39.5s,i'd rather be able to slip it in off camber situations

What's it going in?

And for what use? DD, towing, trailer queen?

Well... I had the HAYS H.D. in my old Runner and didn't like it.... Didn't seem to have much grab, and I could slip it at will w/ my Michelins and dual cases...

best option would be a GM 3 finger out of a late 70's chev 1 ton. That will go in at the same time as the 4.3 v-6 motor swap that you really need.

if you are going to stay with the Toy, I would recommend Centerforce dual with the hd cover. You need to slip the clutch at times to build torque.

It's a DD, but I wheel it and it's not my only means of transportation. I've noticed that the stock junk is well..... just that. :redneck: Especially on the rocks!

I want to upgrade next time I replace the clutch, but I don't want to over do it. Sounds like a HD clutch and 1200 lbs pressure plate.

Thanks guys! :awesomework:

I've got the Marlin 1200# clutch and it's awesome. I wouldn't go with anything else. And it's cheaper than a CF clutch. If I were to order another one today, I'd go with the 1600#. Engages very firm and smooth. I'd never go with a ceramic one, very touchy if your not used to them.

A buddy that works the local parts house, sells alot of CF's, and gets alot of returns. Alot of stiff clutch complaints, pieces breaking and other problems.
