coil overs or ori's or leave it the hell alone

Ok I have read and read and read thread after thread on here, pirate, jeep forum (don't laugh) and many other random Google searches. The one thing I have noticed is the internet is full of whiny bitches and assholes. But seriously I am at a stand still and don't know which way to go. I wheel with a guy that screams ORI but in 2 years his have broke twice and he has had to take them off and send them back to get rebuilt. I have never seen a coil over break (except the rock bouncers taking a bad bad roll) and my coil springs have never let me down. I want to race my jeep maybe ECORS or something similar, so i'm leaning towards coil overs because they seem to hold up to racing better, but people are claiming that ORI are doing the same thing now. Is there anyone that anybody knows in the Chattanooga area that is good at tuning coil overs or even sells them? i guess you guys need to know about the rig a little bit too:
99 wrangler stock I6 motor, ax15 trans, 231 tcase
dana 44 front 8.8 rear

nothing crazy at all or out of the ordinary just want to take the little jeep to the next level. Thanks for any advise in advance.
 
Some like Ford and some like Chevy..........coilovers have my vote.

For tuning, call EOR in Murphreesboro if you ain't gonna do it yourself.
 
This is a very expensive hobby and I like to keep cost down everywhere I can by keeping things simple. I prefer a coilover. In fact I think that for 90+% of the wheelers out on the trail a 14" x 2.0" coilover is capable of handling everything asked of the driver.
I like the fact is if very hard to make a coil spring fail without something else big failing first. The struts and air shock depend on seals that could fail ending a wheeling trip very fast.

A nitrogen source is needed for both so that is a non issue.

Coilovers are very easy to change valving on about 20 min. once they are off the rig. Once again simple yet fully adjustable by most of us at home or at the trail given the correct tools.

I must say the ORI struts are a work of art to look at. Word is they are also capable of the "cloud of titties" ride as well.
Everyone also says that you don't need bumpstops or swaybars with them. I personally don't feel comfortable trusting a 1/2" bolt as my bumpstop.
On my Jeep 4 link f/r coilovers I don't run a swaybar and have never felt it needed one.

I say go with a coilover, cost less, adjustable, pretty hard to tear up and with a little time they too can ride like a cloud of titties to.

Yup, where I bought mine from. Couldn't find em cheaper anywhere else. Call and ask for CJ Ryan, tell him one legged man sent you. He works in sales, but his last day at EOR is next Friday so hurry! Or, just drop your rig by and let Jimmy install and tune them if that's what you want done. If Jimmy does it, it'll be right rest assured.
 
It will be like month before I will be financially ready to pull the trigger. I can install them just tuning them iswhat I'm concerned about
 
I have had coilovers on a rig and never could get them just like i wanted. They was either to hard or to soft. For racing I would say they are the better choice but for just trail riding go ORI. I have them on my. New buggy and they are awesome. I run no bump stop or sway bar and it rides way better then the old buggy did. I have maybe an hr in tuning them and it's as easy as hooking up an air hose to adjust them.

Yes they cost more but when you buy bumps an say bars to go along with your coilovers you around the same price depending on which you get. Like all things both have there pros and cons.
 
Oris performed well for me for a couple of years. I also had the fail twice once with the seals, and a rock knocked one if the valves off. For me that's all it took and I sold them and bought coilovers. With that said I'm still trying to get the coilovers dialed with the spring rates, bump stops etc. If your going to ride hard go with the coilovers in my opinion they have better longevity.
