I am having an issue with mounting my coilover on top of the steering arm. When it is at full stuff or at ride height there are no problems. It's when the coilover is extender all the way out is where I'm having my issue. So here is my question, should i mount the coilover like in the pic below? I have Swayaways on it and their misalignment spacer reduces the heim from a 5/8" dia to a 1/2" dia bolt. If I run the misalignment spacer provided it binds no matter what. I have mocked up some temporary brackets on the other steering arm (too ugly to show) and I got almost all the binding out, also taking the provided misc spacer out and running a 5/8" bolt with temporary spacers. My problem with mounting them close enough together so it just has barely enough room to clear and not bind puts the brackets about in the middle of the king pin bolts. Whatcha got for me Hardline? Do you think there will be too much shear force on the 5/8" bolt with the brackets mounted that far apart?

Knuckle pointed straight no problems.

Not so much a problem with it turned this way.

Lots of binding turned this way.

And edited pic to show easiest way to cure problem(no I'm not an artist)

Going to study this some more. Time for bed. thumb.gif

Bend your mounts and flare the sides out.

Bend your mounts and flare the sides out.

Tried to bend the mounts a little, makes it worse on the opposite side when turning the other way.

Also worst case scenario is to make a cap with the brackets milled into them, but still not sure how that will work with arm bolts.

Well hell why didn't you say so.
All info is going to be needed from now on before any tech help can be given. thumb.gif

Don't think milling them will help. Would have the same problem, but fancier mounts.

Sorry im getting tired and can't think right now. Milling the brackets farther away from what they are now is what was refering to.

P, Joe, Brennan and myself have all used extra 1/2' spacers on the outside of the spacers that come with the shocks. This widens the mounting point and eliminated rod end bind. The position of your bolts might not make that possible though

Agreed. thumb.gif
From the looks of the pics he can't make the mounts any wider or tweak them one way due to the bolt heads be so close.

Why are you mounting them to the Arm, you couldn't come up with a better way than that?

If he mounted them on the axle, they get into part of the chassis. And he dont wanna cut the hood, so his choices are limited I guess.

Well he is gonna have to stop being a ***** and cut the Hood.

Yea, I was gunna say it but, I figured you would. I know daniel loves our advice molaugh

Turds front CO's are on the steering arms, ran em that way for two years and not one problem. thumb.gif

Im not understanding what you have setup wise on the Fusion Chassis that has you needing to mount up there...

Pics??

Is it the picture or is there a big angle out on the coilover to the knuckle?

I have seen this done lots of time, but there is already enough problems with knuckles to add all the stress from jumping and rock bouncing to it.

I would look at this hard and try to get the shock on the tube. You hang with this crowd and your hood is going to get bashed anyway, you need to buck up for a plastic one and cut it out for the coilovers.....

Hopefully I wont have too many problems with my knuckles and arms. http://hardlinecrawlers.com/forums/index.php?topic=1343.0

have you not seen the mounts that come up off the tube, weld up the inner c and hand a mount up over the edge of the steering arm? then there's no compounding with turning or extra stress for the knuckle. you can make it out of pretty light plate if you cap both sides and speed hole it/connect with internal tubes.

Already have tried those. At full droop the coilover hits the frame. Like I said above I can make all this work if I cut the hood, Just wanna have a clean look. Just looking for other options than what I have already done. Or if what I have come up with in the edited pic will work.
