have you not seen the mounts that come up off the tube, weld up the inner c and hand a mount up over the edge of the steering arm? then there's no compounding with turning or extra stress for the knuckle. you can make it out of pretty light plate if you cap both sides and speed hole it/connect with internal tubes.
