How is it done. and can it be used to run arb,s. are they better then elect pumps. thanks for the help.

yes very easy to do. If you going to run an ARB you'll want an air tank to pressurize. But basically its a couple of fittings, a well pressure switch and some hose.

And an oil return system, depending on the compressor style. York brand compressors are easy, as they have an integral crankcase for the oil, but most of the rotary-style compressors will blow the oil (which is suspended in the freon - hence recycled) out and fail shortly thereafter. This can be prevented by putting a oil (water) seperator on the output line, and a plumbing back into the compressor body to recycle that oil.

The Yorks also blow oil. They have a oiling hole from the case to the cylinder that needs to be plugged off. Even after that they still spew a small amount of oil. If you run an ARB you will need to install a oil seperator. They are not cheap. I run a York 210, love it! It will feed my 1/2" air gun no problem.

Here is a link that shows the mod that needs to be done to slow the oil flow down. This can also be accomplished from the air chamber area but you will have to buy a new seal kit. I think it was like $18.

Not enough to matter! The York can be mounted three different positons. Upright, or sideways with the intake low/output high, or sideways with the intake high/output low. In the upright position, it'll run just fine without blowing oil. In one of the two laydown positions, it'll also run fine without blowing oil. (I can't remember which laydown position has a problem, but the Kilby site has instructions, and the link is already posted by Grumpy)

If you get a compressor that already lays down in it's original vehicle then it will not blow oil, most jeeps can use one from a grand waggoneer.

Mine did alot. It was a verticle mount and still is. It would fill up the seperator in a hurry and still mist your hand coming out the air hose nozzle. Maybe they don't in a horizontal postion. I plugged the oil passage and it only blows a small amount enough to lube the air rachets.

Wierd.

My CJ had an upright for 15 years or more. I had to add a couple of ounces of oil every few years. I built my YJ with the same bracketry, and have ran that compressor for 3 or 4 years and haven't added any oil. I have the York dipstick for checking compressor oil level, and check every spring, and it's yet to get to the 'add' mark.

Are you sure it's all oil in the seperator, or, water with just a little oil in it, getting pumped.
