i have a crazy rattle/vibration/grinding noise coming out of the k5. maybe trans or tcase or rear end? only off the throttle to barely on, goes away completely with good pedal... drives fine. shifts fine.
700r4 to 208? to 14bff....
any ideas?

no, all new and not that type, its like a bearing thats toast or splines slipping or gears grinding type of noise... im just having a hrd time figuring what it might be or pinpointing it because the rig is noisy...

do those rigs have a carrier bearing on the driveline? im not too familiar with them.

no, and its an extra short DS because the WB isnt real long. but the driveshafts are completely new frt and rear. it is slip yoke at the rear on the tcase end. it makes the noise in 4wd as well. drives nice and quiet with pedal but as soon as you step out the noise starts....

update: so it appears to go away with the rear shaft removed. pinion bearings? or is there anything that would go out in the tail of the tcase?

ohhh....so grab ahold of the pinion on the 14 and see if shes loose.....if not must be the t-case....i am unsure about the internals of a 208....

Doesn't the 208 have a chain in it???? I dont know but it sounds like what happened to me when my 203 went out, the chain would first just slip at lite throttle before it found its happy place and held, then it got worse and worse to the point where any throttle at all would make a slipping, grinding noise and then:owned: thing went on me half way up Isabel:mad:

i considered that but the noise went away w/o a rear shaft installed.
is there any bearings in the tailshaft of that thing?

I know my 203 had a bearing right in the tailshaft it would make sense if your is chain driven to have a bearing back there to. . . .

Its not that hard to pull it off to check, except watch out for all the needle bearings to fall out, I would suggest pulling the whole case and getting it on a bench. . . . . i pulled mine last night in the dark took me 30mins or so. Good luck:corn:
