Custom Brake Lines

You sure you need custom? OEM > custom IMO, if they're readily available.

Details :D

Well with my upcoming spring over my stock rubber YJ lines won't be long enough even if I relocate the hardline on the frame. Am I incorrect? So I was hoping to save some cash by getting some custom ones made up rather than spending $85 on a set from rubicon. What are you running?

Technically yes, you are incorrect, but it will take some fab work. Personally, I'd do the work and run OEM lines. You could flare some extension hard lines, and put stand offs on the frame to match your lift; better than aftermarket lines if you're setup to do the work.

My front now has a single line that splits at the axle. It's a stock CJ rear soft line, so the splitter is actually part of the OEM line. I don't have any of the stock hard lines left, it's all custom flared/bent front and rear.

Go to an auto parts store and look through the brake line book and find one that has the right ends and is longer. I wouldnt want custom brake lines, then its a PITA when you tear one and need a replacement while you're down in moab or something.

Dunno if this will work, but try some from a 95 YJ.

My TJ lines were too short so that is what I did.

in the picture the top is stock TJ the bottom is 95 YJ. Works great for me.

Per this fella working at Shucks (of all places) off 128th, everett:

There is a hydro-hose service company (maybe for trailers?) just south of the trestle (spell?) on evergreen way that makes whatever length / fittings for $25.00 each.

If I ever make it up there, I will get more detailed info. Nice Price if its true.

greenshields on north broadway..

IMHO i agree with crusty and Karlvp, OEM is way better and you can find what you need for much less than custom. i use OEM off of chevy vans. they have the correct ends i needed and are almost 9" longer than stock.

I believe Greenshields charges like $37 a line or something crazy like that. Olympic did 3 for me for $86. Really nice lines, exactly the lengths and ends I needed. No hassle of looking through parts books.

were they the OEM style reinforced rubber hoses or the teflon sleeve with steel braid around the outside? just curious.

the later mentioned ones only take one tire rub till they are ruptured....seen a few of that style fail.

Greenshield ones have the plastic on the outside over the steel braiding they are very nice.
