D44 brake calliper

Sounds like a "sticking" caliper. Usually caused by a rusty piston. You could take the caliper off, dissassemble it, remove the rust from the piston and then reassemble it. Its pretty easy. I used to replace mine all the time, because I was mudboggin every weekend, but started cleaning them instead.

The only hard part is the o-ring seal and getting it back in the pistion groove.

will brake but wont retract.... replace calliper???

Bad caliper. Don't bother rebuilding it. Cheaper and easier to simply get a remanufactured one at Napa.

or

Collapsed brake hose. The pedal pushes fluid (under extreme pressure) thru the hose, but once there, it can't return to the master cylinder.

You might want to replace both at the same time, as hoses also aren't very spendy, and it'll save you having to bleed the brakes twice.

You can easily check both parts before you replace either, by simply removing each. Once removed, if you can easily blow (by mouth) air thru the hose, it's OK. If you can easily push the piston in the caliper into the caliper by hand (once the hose is removed) then it too should be OK.

My guess. Caliper.
