I thought I would share a little on my D60 HP wrestlin' match.Install into 79' Big B.:awesomework:
This axle came from 87' F3. As the 78'-79' axles become harder to find, this may help.:D
1. I cut off approx. 2" @ driver side tube/housing interface. In order to make room for radius arm mount. Took the 2' cut right to the plug welds & stopped.
So....the common myth that these yr. axles can't be used on anything other than a leaf spring suspension simply is not accurate.
2. Rotate pinion DOWN.....NOT UP!!! when setting up proper geometry/steering. I went 4.5 degrees PINION DOWN. Of course you'll now need a front CV driveshaft, if ya' don't already. i needed to install different NP205 yoke/seal for Front CV. Six states had everythig I needed.
3. Before installation......I used a swazall & cut off wheel to remove spring perches/bracketry. Even shaved bottom of housing w/sawzall. If I can do it...so can you.
4. I used the Cage weld on bracket @ the axle tube. Worked great for me. Then I used the Cage arms w/o the C-bushings or C-bushing "wedges".
This version of radius arms bolts directly to weld on brackets. This requires you to set proper geometry @ install......Hence the 4.5 degree @ knuckle....ROLLLING PINION DOWN .....NOT UP. I repeat this because I wanted to roll pinion up also....seems natural.....Do it correctly or the steering will be scary.
5. Death wobble:puke: .....I had it in spades!!! All new TRE'S. New TSL's didn't help. I finally pulled knuckles off & shimmed em'. Yay!!!! DW gone. S.O. refused to ride:wtf: after one DW for her.
6. Made my own Trac-bar to exact length. Take the time to center axle in frame.Measre correctly & often. I used plumb bobs to find center of frame.
Fabbed own Trac-bar mount.....after trying to get trac-bar & drag link angles approx. same.
Feel free to critique/offer/argue/point out my junk.:D

Cutting 2" off the housing to make room seems like a lot. I wonder how much strength you removed by cutting away so much?

Thanks for the info, I'm putting a 79 d60 in the front of my early bronco, I'm planning on buying the weld on wedges from duffs and use my stock radius arms. So I just want to make sure I get this right the bottom kingpin should be forward of the top kingpin 4.5 degrees, thanks

D60 stuff

Shot......Cage is now located here in St.Helens, Jim Cole the former design guy/guru behind Duff is now the main brain @ Cage. I spent a lot of time/numerous trips to Cage shop.Crawling under his early Bronc', measuring & pondering. Maybe it's not quite 2" but the overlap is what I removed, to the plug welds. I was also thinking of leaving the overlap. Jim explained to me how he has never had a problem. I was just going to further clearance I.D. of weld on bracket for drivers side. He convinced me. I have hit the mud pits HARD:mad: @ FULL THROTTLE spinnin' all four. No issues as of yet. I was extremely concened about this also:wtf: .
CMUD.........No problemo...shim those knuckles while ya' got er' apart: eliminating the dreaded Death Wobble. I put two or three fender washers on top of spring.
