Is a d 30 axle on a 94 grand cherokee any different than any other d 30? A friend of mine said the Jeep dealership in Bremerton wants $750.00 to change out the passinger side u-joint.(Holy ****).I have changed a few on my xj and it wasn't that bad.

Damn...you could buy another complete D30 for that price.

They should be the same in regards to swapping an axle shaft U-joint.

is it a u-joint? or a cv joint?

the grands i think use a cv. theyre more expensive than a u-joint.
the labor would be just a touch less than with a u-joint tho. the part is alot more.

edit: thats still WAY too much. should be around $200 ish..parts/labor

not sure if it's a u-joint or a cv-joint at the moment.Could we possibly put a complete d-30 from a xj under it ,in place of the expensive d-30 thats under it now?

just do the work yourselfs. the part(if cv) is just over $100.

im not sure if u can put a u-joint axle in place of a cv...but id guess you can.

Just replace the ujoint/ or cv axle(whichever it is.....); there's less small parts to take apart in the grand's D30 than an earlier D44!!! Hell, you've got the brakes, an axle nut, and 4 bolts that holds the unit bearing to the knuckle, pull the axle out and either replace it with a reman CV (if that's what it's got) or replace the axle ujioint---then reverse removal procedure!!!:awesomework:

Yeah it should be a CV axle. same to pull out as an XJ shaft, it just has the CV instead of the u-joint. you can either replace the CV or throw some XJ-TJ-YJ shafts in there.

and just sayin, I got a set of 297 shafts for sale :)

That is a ridiculous price!

No matter what you have, you have to learn your vehicle and repair it....you maybe in the field and need to repair the next time and if with me I will help as with most, but not having a clue is no excuse...This is a simple fix, there are alot of good people to help you, do it yourself, see, and save....
