Dana 44 big/small spindle

Ok its been a long time since I did any research on the 44 stuff and I have forgotn a bunch of what I had learned..

So tell me if I am wrong. Big/small spindle uses the same stub shaft?

Working on sams 44 and the knucles he got are for a big spindle and the ones on the rig are small. Just trying to see what exactly needs to be changed besides the brake caliper bracket and spindle.

Stub shaft lengths are only different based off Ford, or Jeep/Chevy.

Ford 9.72"
Chevy/Jeep Waggie 9.94"

I assume thats center of u-joint to end of stub?

I measure almost 10"

Yup.

Sounds like Waggy/Chev front D44.

Knuckles are the same between big bearing and small bearing spindles. Are you talking about Ford knuckles vs. Chevy knuckles? Fords have a bigger hole and 5 bolts instead of 6.

Oops. I was answering the wrong question.:redneck:

the stubs for ford list a shorter length (9.75) than the others (10).

In reality they are the same stubs used form one to the other. The ford uses the groove machined back further on the exact same shaft. The chev waggy uses the outer clip groove. Same stubb for both.:beer:

Ford knuckles have 5 studs and use "small bearings".

depends on wich hubs your running as to wich groove you use. stock hubs use inner groove, and warn premiums use the outer groove.
